Replacing Front forks, left different from right?
#1
Hi everybody,

need to replace the front forks, as at least one of them is bent.

I might get each one of them from different sellers.

Question: is the right hand fork the same as the left hand one, i.e. are they interchangeable?

Also are the non ajustable forks from 98-99 different in layout from the 00-03 ones?

Thanks

I think left and right are not interchangeable, the wheel and speedo would not fit.

The only differences between 98 and 03 forks are some inner bits. They are interchangeable. I did convert my non adjustable fork to adjustable easily.

Left and right lowers are different, and not interchangeable, if your forks are bent it'll be the stanchions, probably about £100 new each, could quite easily buy just one and if not confident take the fork down to a mechanic,
if you buy second hand off eBay chances are high they could be slightly bent too!

I just swapped my whole front end today apart from the wheel with a thundercat front end as my forks weren't just bent but one was proper 'creased' at the yoke.
Why the thundercat swap?- my T'cat got cat B written off in my last accident, frame bent, front end was fine so instead of spending money it just took me time to fix my wobble!

Nice one, unfortunately T'cat forks are getting rarer these days....its a pity there isnt more interchangeable fork parts from other Yams

They are a lot longer though, so stick out the yokes a fair amount, plus to have full suspension travel the front is raised more than standard, but tbh the bike feels nice and stable!

I actually bought my bike with forks and front fender from FZR600 R on it, or at least that's what I figured out by the looks of them, since they are definitely not original. According to specs the FZR ones are also 41mm and they are ajustable.

Does anybody know if the FZ6 forks would fit right on if they come with the yokes?

Thanks
