Phone mount
#1
I want to use to use my phone as a satnav by mounting it on the handlebars, there's plenty of kit available on the net but I was wondering what others have tried? I want to keep the phone dry and charged but not too bothered about listening to the directions.

I got a drycase on mines.. Its phone model specidic and can be mounted in varios ways like bar mount. Stem mount or yolk mount. I got mines on the handlebar yolk.. A mains charger can be bought too to run off the bike battery..

Cant recal the make.. Ill check tonight when home..

What sorta phone you got DryRob?

Dont UltimateAddOns do universal cases too? not as neat as a model specific case but better than nowt..
Other thing is your on about using the Satnav on it? how you plan to listen to it? I tried standard music headphones at first but found them a pain to keep in.. a set of helmet speakers worked better but they were a cheap set and sound wasnt great on them, a bit on the quiet side really..
Ended up fitting a Scala Rider 4 Bluetooth set to the helmet and use the bluetooth to link to the phone for SatNav or music etc.. hunt about on ebay for deals on those if you wanna go down that route.. I got a twin pack for £130 so the second set went on the wifes helmet for when shes on..

Of coarse if your not wanting to hear the SatNav that last lots all mute (pun intended)  :b

Yeah they do universal mounts so I've gone for one of those, just waiting for an adapter so I can charge the phone as I use the GPS. I'm only going to be using it as a guide to be honest, I don't mind getting lost if I'm on a good road and heading in the right general direction.

Your taking all the fun out of riding, getting lost and finding you way again.  Smile Stopping amd asking for directions is part of my fun on hoilday in Spain and France especially if they have little or no English and I have very little French and Spanish. :rollin
A few years ago we were just ousid Granada in a small little village and could not find the way out. We saw two old men in the square so we approached one of them from behind as he was walking accross the road and he totally ignored us, the second fellow gestured to us to cme over to him. he gestured to his ears shook his head and pointed at the other man, apparently he was deaf. After a little while chatting in pigeon english and spanish he directed us on our merry way amid the laughing at us and us at chances of picking the only deaf man in the village to look for direction.

cant remember if it was this thread or another with someone assking how the phone mounts looked when added to the Fazer.. well I eventually got round to adding a pic of mines..
Its the Ultimate Addons hard case for the Galaxy SII and its mounted on a ball mount which is an extended fork bolt with the ball end.. you can replace any of the four handlebar bolt mounts with this, I used the lower right one which still gives me great view of all the instraments when I use the phone in landscape mode, it blocks the fuel guage a bit when mounted in the portrait format..
You can just make out the charging cable in front of the right fork.. it wires direct to the battery through a fused line. its not plugged in there so sits nicely behind and has a waterproof cover for when not in use..
