Who has the highest mileage on their Fazer?

What are the symptoms? High oil consumption? Low power?

Oil consumption on mine was about 300cc per thousand miles and there was still plenty of power, but it sounded like an old diesel engine. A change of camchain might have been all it needed, but I thought the noises were more like piston slap in which case the overhaul would have become quite expensive and time-consuming. When a cheap second-hand engine became available only a few miles away from me I figured a swap was the sensible solution.
Sadly, that unit turned out to be one with a duff second gear so I ended up swapping again a year later. :'(

Sure an engine could be a write off after 10,000 miles if it's been badly treated or it could keep going forever if you're willing to put money into fixing it. Just depends on when you think it's not worth fixing.

Mine had done 24k mile before it needed a new engine - but that was because I'd used it to learn clutchless up (and down) gear changes. It developed a nasty habit of dropping into neutral when upchanging between 2nd and 3rd - not good in the middle of an overtake  :rollin you look like a right twat sitting alongside a cage with the engine revving its nuts off
