why the foc do they make it soooo difficult to get apart.
eventually got the 4 security bolts out with slotted 4mm allen key, still no joy. what look like moulding marks are, in fact, screw covers for a size of torx bit unknown to mankind. had to grind down an allen key to a flat and beat it that way!

For your info

My Gen 1 mount went faulty so i decided to try and wire 12v to it via a piece of wire but made a right hash of it. So i contacted Tom Tom to get a estimate for repair. They said send it back we will check it out if the estimate is to costly i could just refuse and get it posted back.
I posted the gen 1 back and waited a couple of weeks before contacting them, when i did they said the problem had been resolved and was on its way back to me. They never mentioned how much it was to repair so i assumed i had wrecked it and they were just posting it back.

How wrong was i  :eek  They had posted back a brand new Gen 2 yes Gen 2 with all the mount's, connections, and UK gps software free of charge i was pleased to say the least. Customer service at it's best. Smile Smile

Its mostly to discourage people from taking them apart. To be honest, once they're open, components are that small that you'd be lucky to do anything worthwhile anyway, without specialist skills / tools.

There's two pivot pins on the Dock of the TomTom Rider v2 and on mine they came out somehow, meaning that a) the contacts on the back kept losing touch with the contact pins on the dock (so I would often lose half an instruction) and b) the contact pins were acting like woodpeckers, making holes in the contacts.

After a lot of back and forth TomTom eventually took the unit back (without actually admitting they were at fault) and sent me a new one. They also sent me a new mount and Dock, but, for some reason, I got *three* more RAM mounts as well!

I e-mailed them about this and said "you can have them back if you will pay the return postage" to which they replied "that's too much hassle, keep them"!

So if anyone wants a RAM mount (without dock) drop me a line and we can work out a deal Smile
