Possible lean running?
#1
Hi guys I'm new here an I'm new to the fazer to iv owned it since November last year and it's all going well so far iv had the cam chain tensioner replaced as iv found that this is a comman fault this has made a huge difference to the noisy engine that it was lol I had the carbs balance at the same time which was also needed, but my question is this, I recently put a un baffled beowolf can on the bike (which sounds great) but iv found out that the popping/burbling it does now on deceleration could mean its running lean? It's got also a hiflow air filter and oil filter, but was thinking about the individual k n n filters, anyway iv herd conflicting things about this running lean situation so I was going to get the bike rolling roaded and basically was wondering if they would be able to diagnose it from this and give me info on what I can do as iv herd it's bad for the engine, I'm new to tuning bikes but wanna get stuck in, any advise would be awesom cheers Smile

Best way to be sure is take a spark plug out and see what condition it is in
Found a quick guide for what to look for here.

Lord,
Grant me the WD-40 to move those things that are stuck, the Duck tape to fasten those things that are loose, And the wisdom to know the difference.
Amen

I put a Delkavic stubby on mine last march and it does the same i have a KnN filter on the bike as well.
I check the plugs every couple of months and they are a lovely tan colour.no soot or other bad signs.
Bike runs great apart from the popping on decel but if you lean of the throttle gently it lessens the popping.
Thats my rant over.... :lol

popping on any bike/ exhaust on the over run ( deceleration ) can also be a slight leak on one or more of the exhaust joints / seals allowing air in.. worth checking. costs nothing  Wink

Leaking exhaust is a possibility as ade said, but mine is as tight as my wallet on a night out with me.... :rollin

Mine pops too after a motad venom system was installed.  Not terribly so - in fact I quite like it!

But I know nothing of mechanics so I'm probably killing it!

they pop and bang on the overrun anyway but with the stock silencer you don't hear it.

now individual k&n's will make it run way lean.
