new xj 600
#1
OK I know its not a Fazer but .......
I quite like the look of these bikes.
has any one ridden one.
I've ridden the old model and I have to say that they were gutless/bland.
but the new model I've read that its capable of 140mph not that I'll ever get to that speed but at least it indicate a much stronger bike than the old one..
the fastest I went on my old Fazer 600 was 120mph and that was a bit to fast for me.
I dont suppose it share the same engine as the Fazer?
anyway any comment ,info would be appreciated. john

I was given a new(ish) Diversion as a 'courtesy' bike after a recent 'off'. It was handed over late evening and was dark so didn't really get a look at it, next day when i rode to work i was running late and, again (and a little shamefully as i obviously didn't do any safety checks) didn't really look at it again. I think i was under the impression it was Yamaha's answer to Kawa's ER6 - and so assumed it was a parallel twin.
It certainly felt like one to ride - i was amazed when i (finally) looked and saw 4 pipes coming out the engine.

Maybe 600's have gone downhill since i had my Thundercat(?) but i thought the XJ little better than my CB500 it was filling in for (ok the frame and suspension were a little better). Of course it's a slightly unfair 'test' as the bike i was given had, doubtlessly, been thrashed but i'd certainly look in to some of the alternatives first...
Someone sent me a postcard picture of the earth. On the back it said, "Wish you were here."

I use one as my work bike ( well actually the Diversion not the XJ ) and it's okayish. Fairly comfy and secure on the road depending on the tyres.

The engine is as smooth as a smooth thing but feels revvy. It actually matches the old carbed Fazer 600 revs-wise but just doesn't feel like it.

The seat takes some getting used to ....  :'(

I think the XJ600 has a tooth less on the front sprocket as it feels a bit more responsive when the throttle is cracked open.

I think the XJ6 has the 70bhp FZ6 engine that was used before the 2008 FZ6S2 upgrade to 98bhp (the one I have)
Other than that they are pretty similar I think

FZ6S2 is comfy and fast enough for me
