At the weekend I had the misfortune of taking a FZ8-N out for a test ride and was somewhat disappointed to say the least. 3 years ago I owned a 54' plate Fazer 1000 which I had Ivans kitted and it was great. Anyway I moved on to other bikes (Speed Triple, Bandit, Harley) but I have a test ride booked on a FZ1-N this coming weekend. Is it massively different to a Fazer thou? (I mean in terms of riding, handling etc, obviously the lack of fairing will make a difference) How do they compare power delivery wise?
Personally I think the FZ1 looks absoulutely awesome, I hope it has the power/rideability to match!
Different, yes. Massively? Well, you'll be best placed to answer that soon.
The handling and power delivery is more sporty in nature than the Gen 1. Whether it's what you want in your next bike, only you can say.

There's also the smaller tank range (vs the GEN1) and allegedly (not ridden one) uncomfortable seat to consider - depending on how far you ride you might not encounter these on a test ride but you might want to factor them into your decision.
this is going to open a can of worms :lurk :lol :lol
i can realy see the apeal of the FZ1 but was affter something a bit more comfortable and with a better mid range power delivery.
but the gen 2 is a nice motor and out of the box i would say for most riders would go gen 2 wether it be the half faired or naked.
but those in the know will fiddle with a gen 1 and be happyer
Well if fiddling with it makes you happy.............................................
Nothing wrong with a little fiddling!
i tried my mate's FZ1 before i had my gen1. within 5 mins i had the pegs on the deck and was going obscenely fast.
FZ1 is (imo) a comfy R1, whereas the gen1 is a genuine all rounder (once you have changed the springs. carburation, mirrors, bars, forks................................... )
The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money!

Its like a speed triple without the low end shunt....
its like a gen1 without the comfort !
you will either like it or hate it .....IMO.... :rolleyes
Quite right there pitt!
I remember my test ride on a gen2, I just had to have one. The ride home on the gen1 seemed very lame
lets see how he gets on.....

Oh yes I tried it alright! What a superb piece of kit. Just what the doctor ordered, or was that me? Oh yes I've ordered mine and will be picking it up early march. I think the rear suspension may need stiffening up just a nats, then other than a tail tidy, decent pipe and maybe a small fly screen that will be it.
Can't wait :lol :lol

After having ridden both bikes, I am inclined to agree, but will say the FZ1 is also great in a straight line as well as going round corners!!!!
I bet you have not tried a gen1 with K tech suspension then !......
does corners a treat ....

Stands to reason then that a FZ1 with K-tech will be leaps ahead again :pokefun
