Another boiler question...

Mine has just gone pop, potentially permanently, what are the good makes for replacement? I seem to recall Worcester Bosch being mentioned a fair bit, any others?

Mine went pop too and I spent the best part of a week with no hot water or heating. So I feel ya pain.

The Heating Engineer, who I trust, had mentioned (in passing) that Worcester Bosch boilers were good boilers. However he had recommended two to me which were Viessmann and Vaillant. I'm not sure about relative cost or anything (I have not had the bill in yet) but I opted for the Vaillant as it would give me a flow rate of around 15 l/min at a temp differential of 35 degrees. The viessmann was slightly lower flow of about 14 l/min at the same temp differential. We did not look at Worcester Bosch so I'm not sure of their performance characteristics. He just mentioned them by name and that they were good.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Here here Jacko
good boiler
Mine and jacko's is 28l per minute, but it depends on how far your boiler has to push the water.

I luvs my Worcester Bosch Greenstar 28i, but i think the others mentioned are good as well. My expert friend (who works for Worcester) reccommended the Worcester 28i over the 24i because of the extra hot water heating capacity in winter when the water is arriving to the house colder.

Cheers folks, I've got a guy coming in the morning to see if it can be resucitated, but even if it can, I think I'll get it replaced over summer. This is the 2nd time recently its thrown a wobbler, and I REALLY don't want it to go permanently in the middle of winter (lucky its pretty warm right now!).

I think the guy coming just deals with Baxi boilers (any thoughts on them?), as new installs, so I'll get a quote from him, but there's a good firm just round the corner that do Vailliant, will have them round to quote, and find a Worcester supplier too.

Our  Worcester Bosch gave up the ghost last autumn after 15 years of trouble-free use. Replaced it with another WB, the Greenstar (30i I think). Highly recommended.

I think Baxi are low-end wrt WB/Vaillant.

I got the 32kW instead of the 28 just to 'have a bit in hand' as it was only £50 more.

Worcester Bosch! Replaced my boiler back in summer from Potterton- which was still working fine since 1994)
I have a Greenstar i Junior and the gas bill is the ONLY one thats gone down in the last few months! Which helps offset the rising cost of everything else, although any savings made will probably end up in Shells balance sheet! Now costing  over£28 to fill Fazer tank!

Air source heat pump is an alternative that will gather popularity soon. In the meantime WB or Vaillant...
