Ignition coils - Woodzey80 - 22-07-25 Hi Does anyone know if it's ok to use 3ohm dynatek coils on an fzs1000 ? TIA RE: Ignition coils - schlumpf - 23-07-25 I assume those Dyna coils are single "coil-on-plug" types? Well, it becomes marginal. The original coils have 2.2 ohms and are dual/wasted-spark type. You would have to take 2 Dynas in parallel as replacement. That lowers the effective ohmic value down to 1.5 ohm and gives about 30% increase in current. That's a lot of additional load to the output driver.. I did some research on that topic and documented it here: http://cvieth.bplaced.net/motorrad_zuendung.html (sorry for german..) My solution was to add an external driver circuitry, to be on the save side. The ECU-box is electrically save with those. Next questiosn (for neerds) would be the inductance value. That also defines how much energy can be stored for the spark. I assume it's in the same ballpark as the original. Is it to replace a bad original coil? Or do you aim for a better spark with more energy? If the later then you should also consider to improve the overall power cabeling. Some significant voltage gets lost there. Yeah to replace faulty originals, second hand ones are obviously showing there age now & don't want to take a chance. The new Chinese ones seem even worse !! I will look into the inductance value, my main concern with them being 3ohm would they be ok with the cdi unit. |
