Brake pad retaining pins - Kenbob - 19-11-20 hi all. Quick question. Should I coat new brake pad retaining pins with a thin film of worth’s brake paste or just the ends that are in the Caliper. Re: Brake pad retaining pins - teecee90 - 19-11-20 The only grease I use is a little red rubber grease when cleaning/replacing brake pistons/seals. No need for any grease or lubricants anywhere else. Re: Brake pad retaining pins - coffee - 20-11-20 Everyone to his own I've always put a bit on the pins just because the pads move along them,it might not do anything but I've done it for years now,it's probably a habit. ![]() Re: Brake pad retaining pins - b1k3rdude - 20-11-20 same here, a thin film of copper grease on the pins. Re: Brake pad retaining pins - robbo - 20-11-20 Yep, me too. Use the same high melting point copper grease that I use on the exup valve. Some on the back of the pads as well. Re: Brake pad retaining pins - teecee90 - 20-11-20 I used to do the same but stopped using copper grease 2-3 years ago and it is so much easier to keep the callipers and pads clean and working well. I found that copper grease just attracts all sorts of grit and crap turning into grinding paste and for no real benefit. From what I remember, there is nothing in the service manual about using grease anywhere on the pads or pins. Re: Brake pad retaining pins - dangerousdave - 21-11-20 A rub with copper grease stops them corroding and makes them much easier to remove next time. Re: Brake pad retaining pins - teecee90 - 21-11-20 I’ve got titanium pins in the front and OEM pins in the rear. No rust or corrosion on either. Regular cleaning and maintenance is the key. Re: Brake pad retaining pins - Kenbob - 21-11-20 Thanks for the replies. Blue spot calipers are great calipers and I have only ever had one seize up on me despite my lack of brake maintenance and riding all year round. I recently saw a delboy video where he shows caliper maintenance so I thought before this winter really sets in with the gritters out and about I would treat said calipers to new pad pins all round and a good wash. Feeling guilty about my Caliper abuse. Re: Brake pad retaining pins - teecee90 - 21-11-20 Delboy’s videos are good for entertainment value, but that’s about all.... Re: Brake pad retaining pins - kralik - 26-11-20 Where did you get the titanium pins from please?
