tool for fork rebuild - celticdog - 23-08-17

Unfortunately I've got a leaking seal so it's time to do some maintenance the bank holiday weekend. To loosen the bottom bolt (M8)on the bottom of fork leg, requires holding the inside damper rod- the usual method is to use a broom handle.

Manual refers to Yam tools (90890) but no idea of what it looks like. From memory I think it's a hex. If I knew the size and shape I could weld something onto a long rod and reach down there.

Has anyone made similar or have any ideas with size and shape help?

I used a broom handle.

^^that's what I did. I had a 1m length of wood  about 30mmx20mm. I whittled the last 4inches into a tapered point. Just give it a whack and it wedged in and I could prevent it from turning whiled I shocked the bolt out.

I made a seal seating tool using one bit of split plastic tube inside another with a jubilee clip on the outside

I think I might have some lying around that I made for the tdm, might be the right size.
Can post one or if you want to try it.

There's a photo of a fella holding said tool on this, as well as it being good clear instructions for the job:

I’ve found some dimensions online! It’s basically a square taper shape. I’ll get me pen knife out.
