Wheels painted - Dustydes - 25-06-16

Decided not to take the bike off the road for a week + so sprayed them with Simoniz black enamel engine paint.
Will powder coat in winter when off the road.

Used the card trick for the tyres
Remove sprocket
Remove discs
Degrease wheels
Mask off bearings
Sand down with wet "n" dry
Degrease again
Mask areas not to be painted
Several coats of Simoniz

If you bend the cards down you can flip the wheel over without damaging fresh paint, the tyre will keep the rim off the ground.
This way you can spray both sides without a dry line.
Spray the wheel and remove the cards before paint dry's or the cards may stick and tear.

Have to say the simoniz gave a powder coat finish and was much better than expected.
Very impressed but will not last like powder coat or be as durable, but for a nice summer look without the loss of use it was worth less than £20

Paint £7 Amason
Wet n Dry £2 pound shop
Thinners £5 motorist centre
Masking tape £1  pound shop
4 packs cards £2 pound shop

The cleaning and prep always takes longer than the spraying

No before pic's but wheels were in a rough state.
Corrosion and large patches of no paint on rims

Wet and cloudy outside but here are a few

They look pretty good, that enamel paint looks like it will last longer than the original paint.

Simoniz do a wheel paint, but I brought the enamel for another job so decided to use it on the wheels.
It's made for cylinder heads and blocks etc, temps up to 150deg resistant to solvents and good chip resistance.

It's listed under one coat tough paints
