Fixing fairing and tank advice.... - humphreys38 - 14-06-15 So my lovely fzs600 boxeye 97 blew of its centre stand in the wind... I parked on a slight gradient to its left side I no idiot... School boy error...... Any way it's received some bad damage to the front fairing, cracks around indicator, the petrol tank has a dent in it front the hand bar and the rear left fairing is scuffed .. Heart breaking Pictures to follow. Is there some good way to fix fairing that is cracked or should I replace the whole front. How do I get a dent out of the tank and can I some how just sand down the rear scuffs and touch it up.... Tom Re: Fixing fairing and tank advice.... - griff86 - 14-06-15 Nightmare. The same thing happened to mine over the winter. The rear indicator went through the undertray too so I've had to replace the undertray. Fairings new are around £180, mine has been repaired by a friend who's a paint sprayer. Re: Fixing fairing and tank advice.... - Deefer666 - 14-06-15 I'm a plastic welder and can repair those cracks but you'll have to find a sprayer to repaint it as I no longer have access to a booth Re: Fixing fairing and tank advice.... - humphreys38 - 14-06-15 Deefeer666 where do you live roughly I would be very interested in repair, I could find a painter easy enough I rekon. Re: Fixing fairing and tank advice.... - Deefer666 - 14-06-15 My workshop is between Huntingdon (cambs) and Thrapston (northants) Re: Fixing fairing and tank advice.... - sinto607276 - 14-06-15 (14-06-15, 02:38 PM)humphreys38 link Wrote: So my lovely fzs600 boxeye 97 blew of its centre stand in the wind... School boy error...Sorry to hear about the damage, schoolboy error or not, you'll learn, hopefully :rolleyes You seem to be getting the help you needed, the only thing I would say is that you said your hand bar was scuffed? I'd seriously think it's been bent and would really need checked, if it dented your tank as in the pics, I don't think it would 'spring' back into shape. Only other thing I would say is that I park on inclines with sidestand and bike in gear, mind you, I always park with my bike in gear, as I do with my car ![]() Re: Fixing fairing and tank advice.... - anutz - 14-06-15 shame about the drop, but at least yours just fell on its side, mine slid a few meters the opposite direction to me, after it spat me off, anyway one thing i did after that was put some crash bobbins on - i then laid it on its side in the garage i.e. dropped it :lol and the only thing that touched was the bobbin and maybe the clutch lever but it was only a scratch and i think it if there was no boxes in the way it would not have touched anything... so the indicators, crank case etc, not further damaged agree with Sinto on checking the bars, but the dent is identical to the one mine has when i got it so i now know the last owner dropped it, not bothered bit its nice to know! Re: Fixing fairing and tank advice.... - anutz - 14-06-15 going to check my bars now actually now i thing about Sinto's point :'( Re: Fixing fairing and tank advice.... - humphreys38 - 14-06-15 Deffer666 dammit, thanks for The info but I live in bodmin Cornwall, bit to far unfortunately, I going to get me a soldering iron and some plastic and try to patch up the fairing for now, the bars look straight but I wouldnt be surprised if they had a slight bend in them, I should prob get them checked at the same time as getting the tank fixed, I was thinking of going to a tail tidy so I suppose I could just take the underside of the back altogether anyway? Unfortunately I actually bought the bike and had the crash bobbins put on it but because of the centre stand putting it on high and I left the side stand out it managed to jump over the bobbins!! It my first big bike so I suppose a fall was due ... Thanks for the advice Re: Fixing fairing and tank advice.... - sinto607276 - 14-06-15 Tom, Should be fairly easy to check your bars, turn them both ways and see if the gap between the bars and tank is the same both sides, admitted you have a bash on the tank, but you can use the front fairing too. I've actually got some plastic on ebay URL: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=171822054512&alt=web Just wanting rid of it, if you want it give me a shout and pay the postage, you can have it and I'll pull the auction for you, or if you want to bid on it and win it, I'll reduce the Postage to compensate for it, whatever way, i just want rid of it and if it helps a fellow foccer that's a good thing in my book. Re: Fixing fairing and tank advice.... - humphreys38 - 14-06-15 Ah now I have never done a plastic weld job before can I just melt that plastic down to use in the restructuring and welding of the cracks with a soldering iron? I'm thinking of repairing the cracks in my fairing sometime and some matching filler plastic would be nice! Re: Fixing fairing and tank advice.... - humphreys38 - 20-06-15 Does any one no if later larger fuel tanks would fit the old 98 fzs600 ?
