I thought the Oxford switch was far better? I thought the Oxford switch was far better?I don't know if its still the case but the previous gen oxford controller used to switch off when the system voltage dropped below a certain amount, and for a lot of people this happened at idle while commuting. The Dr-Bike controller is what Oxford used to use and because its a analogue switch with a potentiometer its 100% reliable. The only prevision is that you wire it into a switched live and not directly to the battery, which you should be doing with any accessories in any event. And in any case the normal retail for the current Oxford grips is £80 which is just plain ridiculous, I bet the BOM is a fraction of the retail. Re: Latest Oxford heated grips £39.99 - sinto607276 - 18-04-15 Yes, £80 is a foccin rip off! But I think the £45 delivered is a fair price if your looking for them. I'd read somewhere about the new switching gear, not being reliable etc, but I think there onto version 6 or something now, it's marked on the controller as v6 it's that in the latest catalogue anyhow. I'd hope by now they'd of sorted out all the issues ;-) Re: Latest Oxford heated grips £39.99 - mtread - 18-04-15 Quote:I don't know if its still the case but the previous gen oxford controller used to switch off when the system voltage dropped below a certain amount, and for a lot of people this happened at idle while commuting. That would suggest their charging system isn't very good .....Current Oxford Hot Grips uses the v8 wired directly to the battery. Been using one on my Speed Triple for the last 2 years without any problems at all. But then I do keep my bikes in good nick ![]() These are a steal if you can get them at £39.99 Re: Latest Oxford heated grips £39.99 - b1k3rdude - 19-04-15 (18-04-15, 08:53 PM)mtread link Wrote: That would suggest their charging system isn't very good ....Correct and on the FZS1000 it isnt, the voltage on a lot of bikes is subpar. Barley managing 12v at idle and only reaching 13-13.5v at very high rpm. Where as my Bandit 1200 gives me 14v at idle. - http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?topic=15299.msg173967#msg173967 The reg/rec and the assoc. wiring on the FZS1000 aren't the best and a permenant fix would be to upgrade to thicker guage wires and a superior MOSFET rec from the R1 or FZS1 (2006-on). - http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?topic=4820.0 - http://www.triumphrat.net/speed-triple-forum/104504-charging-system-diagnostics-rectifier-regulator-upgrade.html Re: Latest Oxford heated grips £39.99 - mtread - 19-04-15 But the latest Oxford grips only cut out if voltage drops below 11.5v, but which time you've already got trouble. Anyway, they're fairly easy to switch on again once you're rolling.
