Lowering fzs6 - Exupnut - 05-03-14

Hi all... My girlfriend bought a BLUE FAST fz6 and she is tiptoed when sat on it. I tried to look for dog bones but can't see em as the bottom of the shock is hidden by the swingarm. R there any on this bike? Or is it a different system ? Can it be done adjusting the shock? I would appreciate a call as we need to get this sorted as she back to work on the bike monday.. She has money waiting for the bones if that's how it's done and some labour if any foccer darn saaaarf can help. 07846-700036.

Ok exup

Waiting around for a FZ6 owner is like waiting for Christmas.

Whereas us FZS600 are like dog shit.

So a wee googly googly seems to suggest that it doesnt have dog bones...it is a mono shock whatever the foc that means :rolleyes  (Surely mono means 1 though????.)

Oh i dont foccin know...but sure as shit if these lot are selling a lowering spring then that means there aint no cheap dog bone option.

So heres the link to £90 of lowering.    http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/46181

Or tell her to wear bigger high heels.....& post up some pics :b

Hi Exup!

No dogbones on the FZ6. Look at page 249:
http://www.fazerclub.ru/manuals/FZ6/Yamaha_FZ6_2007_ALL_VERSIONS_Service_Manual.pdf

The shock attaches directly to the swingarm, it's direct, not trailing link (like our superior machines  Wink ). The only way to lower the bike to my knowledge would be to mod/replace the shock, or carry out extensive modification to the swingarm.

EDIT: And I see Noggy has posted a solution (beat me to it, ya bastard!  :lol ). That would seem to be the cheapest solution, unless you get lucky on ebay on the same kind of thing.

EDIT2: My link doesn't work, but this should:

Re: Lowering fzs6 - red98 - 05-03-14

How about chopping a lump of foam out of the seat  Wink............let the air out of the tyres and stick some wooden blocks on the soles of her boots  :lol

Re: Lowering fzs6 - Exupnut - 05-03-14

On that last one you posted? I don't think so.

I'm trying to work out how that thing fits, and failing miserably.  :\

looks like you need to take the bottom off the shock and swap it for the bit exup linked to:

I would say you probably need to strip the shock to do that, so you would need a spring compressor tool (or something else you can use as a substitute)

Re: Lowering fzs6 - ChristoT - 06-03-14

Ah, that makes sense now, thanks. Smile

Re: Lowering fzs6 - red98 - 06-03-14

that looks like a good solution  Wink .....as mick ,its a replacement, shorter ,bottom mount for the shock.....put the spring on the softest setting and slowly un-screw the bottom mount,i dont think you will need a compressor tool.......how old is the bilke, mileage ,condition etc and is the shock nice and clean ?

Re: Lowering fzs6 - Exupnut - 06-03-14

Bike is an abs 08. It done 20k and is in very good condition, very clean not a mark on it. The shock is near mint.

Re: Lowering fzs6 - red98 - 06-03-14

Thats good...should come apart easy.......you going to order it ?

Re: Lowering fzs6 - Exupnut - 06-03-14

Ordered already. Comin tomoro. Hopefully we go round punkstig @ w/end to get some help fitting. If not were comin round yours.

Re: Lowering fzs6 - red98 - 06-03-14

Everybody needs good neighbours  Wink

That's a yes. Cheers :-)

Re: Lowering fzs6 - ChristoT - 09-03-14

So, verdict?

Lowering fzs6 - Exupnut - 09-03-14

Lowered rear suspension to the lowest point and went round punkstig's house yesterday and dropped the front forks 10mm. She is able to get most of her feet down and will try it for a week and see how it goes. If parking it up and moving it seems a problem we will fit the lowering kit and nip round bozboz's and get him to chop and re-weld the side stand. Oh.... And she eatin more vegetables lol

Re: Lowering fzs6 - Grahamm - 10-03-14

Getting the seat cut down is a pretty simple job and can give an extra inch height reduction.

I've posted on this elsewhere in these forums.
