Rack - Geordie073 - 30-09-13

Can anyone advise me of the best rack to put on my FZS 600. I want to add some luggage carrying capacity to it

Thanks for your help  Smile

Re: Rack - mickvp - 30-09-13

I have a rentec rack which is ok, but no topbpx etc for me. I'm lead to believe if you can afford it the givi is the way to go Smile

Re: Rack - darrsi - 30-09-13

Renntec + topbox = no no........trust me

Re: Rack - mtread - 30-09-13

Having said that, if you don't want a topbox, the Renntec is fine. Easy to strap things too, even quite big bags. Doesn't spoil the look of the back of the bike either.

Re: Rack - andybesy - 30-09-13

Hi,

Sounds like you want the following:

- Givi rack with fixing kit (nuts, bolts and spacers) for FZS 600
- Monokey plate (M3) (Monokey is rated for higher loads and speeds than the lower rated monolock, big bike rather than scooter basically)
- Any monkey compatible box (doesn't have to be Givi so long as it's Monokey compatible)

Second hand rack and plate generally go for around £50 or less on ebay. Might need sanding and painting.

If you're anywhere near Derby I think I have an M3 plate going spare you can have for free but they are only cheap anyway and generally included with the rack.

Second hand boxes can cost a lot or a little depending on condition, I picked up a nasty one for a tenner but good enough for the shopping  Wink A shiny one probably £40-£60 I guess

Givi is the best rack, forget putting a renter on its not strong enough to take a box

Re: Rack - Ebme Geek - 01-10-13

It was a Givi rack for me from Wemoto for me, mine's Monolock to match
the 46Ltr second hand box from ebay

Sorted    Smile

Re: Rack - Arfa - 01-10-13

Yep, Givi rack is the best one to go for. Model you need is the 340F, which covers both square eye and fox eye models, boxes comes with slightly different bolts for each. The plate you want is the M3 monokey one. This includes the silvers bits that go on the ends of the rack arms too.

Hunt around second hand, they come up now and again, but do make sure it includes all the fitting bolts you need for your model of bike. M3 plates are more available on ebay, as these are common to many bikes. Only the 340F arms are unique to the FZS600.

Any old Monokey top box should then bolt on. Once you've got the rack fitted, just hunt around local and see what comes up cheap. I managed to pick up an old 52ltr Maxia one for £35.

I did a bit of a write up on my blog on the fitting of these racks, check it here: Givi Rack & Top Box on Fazer 600.

In fact, I've just had to replace this, as I bent the hell out of it and snapped the plate in a recent off. Sad Just came to £100 delivered from Motorcycle Planet (arms and plate). The first one came direct from an Italian ebay seller, cost me ~£65 delivered, but the strong Euro makes this less favourable now.

Yeah, that became apparent when my top box overtook me  :groan

Re: Rack - Doubleclix - 01-10-13

Good stuff. Just what I was after except for one thing. I'm after a full luggage setup. Has anyone got any advice on what to get. I know the cases well enough but it is the fixings I'm not sure about.

Any help would be greatly appreciated Smile)

Re: Rack - Ebme Geek - 01-10-13

I have seen more on a on this forum but can't remember who { need new thread - the most on a fazer }

Or, Givi do a Wingrack, it mount onto the lower part of the rear pegs, seem to remember reading somewhere you have to change the rear pegs to the later longer ones. Unsure, might be possible to make up a bracket

Re: Rack - Doubleclix - 04-10-13

I'm offskis top great Yarmouth tomorrow for the night from Kent, about 160mi with missus on the back with a tank bag and soft panniers for luggage. Loaded them up to see how my bike does so will post a message on how it goes if you want? Smile

Re: Rack - Doubleclix - 04-10-13

Sure mate. No worries Smile

Re: Rack - ChristoT - 04-10-13

If you want serious hauling capability, there's always a trailer! You're allowed to tow 140kg behind a Fazer (based on a kerb weight of 210kg) - which iis only 10kg off the max allowed behind a bike (150kg) anyway. And I dout the police would take you to a weighbridge unless you were, say, towing a horsebox (with horse!!).

Watching this now cheers.  Smile

Does anyone know if these wing racks only take specific cases or are they universal? Apparently they're no longer available new (according to the Givi website) so I don't want to splash out on something that's obsolete.
