Hey
Looking for some Coils to borrow while trying to find my fazers running problem,
Been thou the carbs and spark plugs. Cleaned it all.
My mechincaic suggests to try new coils because it happens at set revs which are low and often cruising speed (2000 - 4500 rpm)
The bike starts to run if like you have low revs and a high gear but does it in first on take off unless you rev the shit out of it.
So if some one has some spare coils i could borrow, if it solves it, i'll be happy to buy them but at the mo, can't and don't want to spare the money on something i know i cannot really sell again and breakers price these things randomly and just say 'from a running bike'
Any help would be great

try new plug leads as they do tend to brake down under loading/ reving if they are on an older bike ....Im sure in the 600 section there is some infor there but you may have to go thro all the posts

I dont think you can replace hte replace the leads on the 600 - aren't they "permanently" fixed into the coils?

yep, they are permanently fixed to the coils.
But its so strange for it do to it,
I have had the bike laid up for a month for repairs (chain came off on the way back from scotland and took out the clutch push rod) and after the new front tyre went on and some fresh petrol which was after about 100 or so miles of use to get the back tyre all bedded in, she started acting up.
It was solved with cleaning the plugs, but only for one ride out.
New plugs had gone in (the set in her were from her April service at a local garage) and she ran fine for a month, so thought nothing of it till that she started doing it worse then before.
Stripped her down and found the fuel filter was full of shit so replaced it, took her out again with a small improvement.
Out came the diaframs, they were ok and no sign of damage, the top of the carbs got a clean and the reservoirs were drained and flushed out. Number one came out cloudy but nothing else from the rest. The coils were checked for damage and number 2 cap popped right off, so trimmed and screwed that back in.
Took her out again, with some more improvements to the point it was now in my cruising revs, which is more annoying.
So i'm left with trying to get some working coils and my friends Fazer is in a dispute with Yamaha over this 'drive sprocket' issue so i can't go near it.

try trimming each lead at the cap ends first!!...then replace all the caps for ngk straight ones?...take about 10mm off each lead!!..if it works?? cheap fix?

I trimmed the ones that had lost all colour in the copper (2 and 3 I think), and the caps looked untouched but could be a quick route to pop down before going back though all the work of ripping off the tank. I know its not much work but I said when I bought the bike this kind of work would be left to my local garage and I would just to the simple things. Oh well, guess I like getting my hands dirty.
NGK Straight Ones? Will my local garage know what I am talking about or can you reckonmend a place to get them from?

not sure of part num but mentioned on here somewhere under a similar post?...if you take one with you and get correct length? dont think you,l go far wrong!! the yam ones are silly money?

They are talked about along with nearly everything I have done, don't want to go and have the carbs balanced as it happened last year while the scottoiller was being fitted and with that being £40 a pop.
I'll give these guys a go and cross my fingers.

Just to say, thanks for the help.
Got the NGK caps on her now and she isn't missing a beat at all. Guessing it was number 2 as each time i looked at that one, it fell out in my hands.
