Its on its way - Gingernutz - 12-10-11

Remember my thread about a project bike for Winter? Well its going to be her in a couple of weeks

I've done a bit of research and apparently I am going to get familiar with carbs
So - go on then - should I try to restore it and keep it as it is or aim to turn it into some tarts handbag?

Re: Its on its way - mr grimsdale - 12-10-11

Well it`s got a tart working on it , so why not?.... :lol

Re: Its on its way - BIG MAC - 12-10-11

is it a 250 400 or 650? I cant remember what the looked like but the xs250 I owned for a short while had the ability to make a super dream look fast...pile of shengis of the first order...but ideal as a winter hack as very reliable I guess

Re: Its on its way - Gingernutz - 12-10-11

Hey Trev, its a little 400 (thats been in Rich's shed since 1997!). Been google imaging for XS400 and there are loads of cafe racers and trackers

Re: Its on its way - chilly - 14-10-11

:eek would make a good boat anchor. my mate had the 250 version it was feckin orrible

Re: Its on its way - helen - 16-10-11

Don't forget, I've still got an XS750 in the garage, if there are any common parts between the two!!  :book

Re: Its on its way - BBROWN1664 - 16-10-11

Helen, I took my test on an XS750. Most were the horrible custom types but the one I had was just a normal road bike. Not seen one like it for years.

Re: Its on its way - BIG MAC - 16-10-11

Mac The elder had an xs750se....in burgundy....even rarer (called the gx750 elsewhere)...and with good foccin reason :rollin

Re: Its on its way - ozpom - 17-10-11

I learned on a mate's 1983 XS250 and it had one thing going for it: it didn't have enough power to get yourself in trouble with  :lol

Sounded like a ride-on lawnmower and went about as fast as one  :z

That said, it didn't cost me anything...except two packets of metal putty to patch up the petrol tank  :eek

I hope the 400s nicer to ride, Ginge!

Restore it these are now very collectable not as much as the 650 but still collectable, dont tart it up it will greatly de-value it.

I love your optimism - I give it three or four concentrated evenings 'fixing' things and it will look like a nearly new bike that Andy has fixed.

Wink

Guid luck with it mate, looks like a fun way to waste a few hours over the winter.
