Christ, as in there weren't seated to the cylinder head or the of the clamp brackets were loose..?

They weren't seated to the cylinder head, took them off placed them back on and gave them a knock with my hand and the went in further.

hmm that means the previous owner didnt put them back on properly for what ever reason, You should throughly check over the rest of the bike - for anything else that hasent been put back on properly  :eek

See the first post in this thread Panthor removed and refitted the downpipes after which the problem occured.

Unfortunately can't blame anyone but myself, I took them off to clean them and didn't put them back on correctly, ah well live and learn
