  all out to kill us.
Posted by: Lumpy - 02-02-12, 01:24 PM - Forum: General - Replies (25)

it's been a tense and anxious week riding in and filtering this week with the cold and the frosted and misted cars on the M27 and A32, but it's Thurday and only 3 more trips to commute and the attitude of ALL CAGE DRIVERS ARE OUT TO KILL ME, is reaping dividneds. Only missed one lane hopper, no indication, by a few inches. I don't like gaps!!!! Lucky I only filter about 10 mph quicker than the traffic, goodness knows what the speed filterers get away with.

  Caliper Piston Removal
Posted by: Phil TK - 02-02-12, 12:03 PM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (5)

It looks like I've got a sticky or seized piston on one of my front calipers so I'm going to take both the calipers off and get all the pistons out for a good clean up. It's not a problem, I usually clamp 3 of the pistons and pump air using a foot pump into the caliper to blow out one piston, clean it up, put it back in and then do the other three similarly. But, for the life of me I can't remember how I used to connect the pump into the banjo bolt hole, I have a vague recollection of using a schraeder valve (from an inner tube) and a football inflator (or was it a 'bic' plastic pen cap) but can't imagine how. Somebody who has done this will know what I mean, I'd be grateful if someone could remind me. Cheers

Kent Fire Bike - Biker Down Course
Posted by: HarryHornby - 02-02-12, 10:11 AM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

Hi All,

If any of you live in Kent you may be interested in the Biker Down Course run by the Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

Details can be found on Facebook if you search for and "like" Kent Fire Bike.  From there you can register your interest in attending a free course.

I've not been myself as yet, I'm hoping to go to one they are running in April.  From what I can gather it's a mainly first aid course aimed at bikers and especially group riding.  The course also covers what to do in an accident involving a biker, things to look out for, legal things to take not of, etc etc.  It's run by bikers in the Fire service for bikers.

Reading posts on the Kent Fire Bike facebook page the course is well received among those who have attended.

At the end of the day it's free to attend and in my eyes all help gratefully received.  Smile

  Brake Squeal!
Posted by: Wade90 - 02-02-12, 09:24 AM - Forum: FZS600 Fazer - Replies (9)

Had the Fazer (2001 600) about 4 or 5 weeks now and absolutely loving it! Brought as a second bike for commuting during winter months to save my Kwaka 650 Versys but enjoying it more than I ever thought I would! Big Grin
Only one issue at moment, the front brake has started squealing when applied gently to control speed in traffic and stopping at low speed, doesn't happen under normal braking. To say it's driving me mad is a bit of an understatement! I've tried giving the disc, pads and calipers a good clean by spraying with brake cleaner and hosing off but it's still there, I seem to remember from my days of fiddling with cars ( :o ) that this could be caused by an anti-squeal shim which always seemed a bit ironic?!?
Any thoughts or advice most appreciated, help save my sanity. PLEASE!! :'(
