Exup again
« on: 07 September 2013, 05:37:48 pm »
I have the dreaded 7K tacho reading. The valve is moving great. I have tried adjusting cables but nothing. There is a clicking noise coming from the servo motor. Could my motor be knackered? Anybody got a spare? They don't look very easy to work on!!

Remove the pulley on the exup at the exhaust and take the cables off it.
Does the servo still click and 7k show on the rev counter?
If so remove the cables from the servo motor.
Test it again, if it still shows 7k change the serve motor if not change the cables

Can I just remove the pulley and leave the cables connected to it?

You are better off taking the cables off, I amended my previous post.

Remove it and soak it in WD40, may be seized in the bushes.

I may have one sitting in Cornwall, Sean.  I'll ask my dad to check the inventory ... :)

Unfazed, Not sure soaking in WD40 would be good for it. Maybe I'll give it a try if I can find something to take it's place.

Mike, That would be great. Hope everybody at your end is in good health after a very busy summer!! Maybe meet up when you are next this way?? Just been up the pub with James for his 19th!! He's grown a little lol

What have you got to lose? :lol If it is broken you cannot break it, the worst you can do is fix it? :eek this has always been my theory.

Mine was seized and i took it off and turned the pulley with pliers, this seemed to do the job. I occasionally get a 7K fault but it doesn't last long and I've not noticed any ill effects with acceleration.
Worth a try and it's free?

I'll give it a go but would still like a spare just in case! Thanks for all your input.

Mine siezed on the R1, and I ended up taking the servo unit to bits. I also think "if its broke, you can't break it".

Miraculously I put it back together again and it started working! It must have been the magic fairy dust I sprinkled in there. ::)

Mr GTX, Thank you for your offer to search through your spares bin for a motor. I hope I've saved you a job because I have been offered a replacement. It's amazing how much more fuel I have been using since the Exup has not been working. On a trip from home to Milton Keynes and extra £6 or so!!

No worries, Sean - hope you get it sorted by the easiest and cheapest route.  :)

Down the pub with James, eh?  Where do the years go, mate?  :lol

Regards to all the family - hope to catch up with you on my travels but unlikely to be this year now. :)

Cheers!

Mike
