Discounted Bikesafe with the Metropolitan Police
« on: 04 September 2013, 09:24:48 pm »

Hi all...

Just about every biker has heard of Bikesafe... sadly not many have done a course... which stuns me considering it's low cost and many benefits...

I did one a few weeks ago (my second having done one a exactly.... ten years, to the day!! before).

For those that don't know, it's a very laid back day, involving a very informal class room session and then a series of assessed rides with some of the Met's finest riders.  Oh and a Frankie and Bennys Meal thrown in (that's got to be worth between £5-10 quid alone)... plus the usual freebies (the V sponge is very useful).

I've been in contact with Andy who is one of the Police Officers on the team, the usual price is £45 but he will provide you with a £10 discount code if you email him (just mention "Dan" and Triumph Tiger owners club).  It's a great day and I had lots of fun.... £35 quid has got to be one seriously good investment in your life and you may even save on your insurance premiums.

If you'd like a discount code please email Andy - andrew.bevis@met.police.uk

The Bikesafe London website is HERE and you can book online if you wish.

If you live, work or study in Lambeth you not only get the £10 off but another £35 off as well!  :)

Who said there's no such thing as a free lunch?  ;)

I think some other London councils may well do it for free as well.

Did one with the Met back in February, from the Romford Triumph Centre. Highly recommended. Bargain price, go with an open mind and you'll learn a lot.  They'll treat you to lunch at Frank'n'Bennies too and you go home with a goodie bag, including a decent RoadCraft book.

I did one two years ago with Gwent Police - South Wales division , was for weekend and lunch was provided in with the cost plus a bike tag for round your neck with your details in case of a accident but price was about £90 if I remember correctly .

Does anyone know if Hampshire Police do anything like this? Any dates and times for the London course.  I'd like to do one amd would travel if it's not too early and I'm not working.

Yes, and they generally finish at Loomies for the debrief and then some questionable types from the local IAM Group try to get you to sign up for Advanced Training (erm, allegedly...) ;)

Sadly no longer Kent due to budget cuts, though Kent Firebike run an excellent Rider Skills Day (mentioned in another thread) at Brands Hatch £50 inc 2x 20min track sessions on Indy Circuit, road assessment, slow riding, First Aid (free kit supplied) and classroom session on Roadcraft.
Next day is 28th October.
London Bikesafe still operates from the Warren at Hayes in Kent.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but any riders in North Yorkshire can do bikesafe for £10/head, which seems a bargain. It's run at fulford nor york or thirsk.

I reckon I'll be signing up to brush up after returning to riding, and be a good chance to blow off winter cobwebs as it's not until march.

Depending on dates and time I would be interested in doing it, a bit of a trip to London but I always enjoy riding in London, so i will watch this space.

I'd be up for this on the 16th of December, or any of the January dates for the London North location.

One big question though, I do have a loud pipe on the bike, and it didn't come with the standard pipe, so I don't know if I'd get disqualified on the day for having a "not roadworthy" vehicle or something...

Has anyone done this course been to it with a "noisy" exhaust??

If it wasn't bad enough that I bought one of the best bikes out there, there's this forum with people wanting to lend me stuff to enable me to do things.
What is WRONG with this world???!!!  :D :lol

Thank you @red98, that would be awesome, I have a mate in Wycombe so ride up there occasionally.

Let's see if we get some more people, although, fair point about the weather.
