Just wondered where you guys are buying tyres from, if online?

Im needing a pair for mine, but obviously would rather get them for a good price. Ive checked ebay, and blackcircles, anywhere else I should be trying?

Hi Mick,

I got my tyre from here - www.oponeo.co.uk

They delivered fast, the tyre is nice and new (not been lying around for years like my last pair) and they store them properly. I thought it was coming from the UK, but it had been in Germany and Holland before it arrived.

I find by the time I've paid for fitting/ balancing there's very little difference in price buying online and faffing about with transporting wheels and tyres than just going and buying the tyres from the shop!

My mate owns a Tyre fitting garage, so I pull the wheels off and take them down in the car. Hell probably take £5 to swap both tyres over for me

I would not trust anyone else to work on my bike, or car for that matter. Why would I pay someone lower qualified than myself to do a job that I am only going to undo to check it has been done properly, which it will not have been. How many grease monkeys have you seen with a torque wrench? None, that's how many. Every bloody nut and bolt getting horsed right up to snapping point. No thanks. And rant over

I have a friend (master tech) who fits tyres to loose wheels for me. He has never taken a penny off me for it in 18 years, although I do buy him nice presents every so often. Usually bike related.

Good rant there. I often like one myself. A special favourite being cyclists and their stupid xmas obsession and flashing bloody lights, but i won't go there today

I make ya right with the trades of today, ya can't trust any of them these days.

I've been using FWR in Kennington for years, they do the Michelin PR2 in 110/70 & 160/60 @ £199 inc next day delivery.

As it's only up the road, I normally just take my wheels up in the car, for loose wheels they'll fit the tyres for free & it then costs £8 for balancing, new valve & old tyre disposal. If I'm feeling lazy then they also do a full ride in/ride out service @ £15 a tyre.

The company I use is Tyres R Us in Eastleigh. They offer a ride in ride out service. A pair of Bridgestone 023's fitted, new valves and balancing for £225.

So..ive had my PR2's fitted, and now delivered. Another slightly OT question:

Does anyone know WHY the tyre treads on the front go in one direction, and the one on the back goes a different direction? doesnt make any sense to me?

Its to di with water displacement. Front pushes water away so rear can grip. Hence reversed tread

thats what i thought, i would have thought both would be set so as to "push out" the water, but the PR2 is backwards on the front, and set to pull in water instead?

Has ti push backwards else you'd aquaplane
