Quiet exhausts

I have a full ss system from Motad including the end can, about 3 years old. Went to a trackday and it registered 103db, the track limit was 105db, whilst my mate on a 09 ZX-10 with an Akrapovic can only registered 93db. His bike sounded lovely, nice growl to it, nicer than standard but not offensive.

Mine's probably become a little louder with time but it was never a particularly quiet can in the first place and was wondering if anybody could recomend an aftermarket can that isn't too loud? Would still prefer that to going back to the heavy old standard pipe.

I had a lovely Fuel can on my FZS and it was the perfect balance of nice sound but not too offensive, I kept the baffle out and it passed MOT's etc etc

Are you sure you haven't got a big hole or leak somewhere too!?! The header gaskets do wear out on FZS's

My stubby scorpion was too loud for bedford autodrome (they have 102db limit)
But I was expecting it to be and just took the standard can with me and fitted that as its only 2 bolts to do it, refitted scorpion to go home!

Yes, pretty sure I don't because I checked for any leaks as I also wondered that myself. To me it sounds like there's not enough packing in the end can or something, it was quite a cheap can so perhaps it hasn't stood the test of time very well? Still, from the outside it looks pretty well made. It is a Motad Venom btw

I enjoyed being behind you for one of the LoFo rideouts - when you cracked open the throttle it sounded fantastic ^^

I can understand going for something quieter if you are using it daily for commuting and around towns/citys etc

Wouldn't be surprised if mine broke most of the decibel limits for tracks but I love it :P

Try re-packing it..

I was going to try that but it didn't seem like a quick job - I don't have a riveting gun so reckoned it'd be easier just to buy a new can. I'm also unsure if it's actually the packing or the design of the can/baffle as it's been pretty loud from new - but there again I'm not sure exactly what variables determine the sound an exhaust makes. Maybe it wasn't packed properly at the factory who knows.

I wonder if there is a specific type of packing material designed to be extra noise deadening?

Thanks Deadeye - I've had quite a few people comment on it but never heard it except whilst I'm riding it! Yeah, exactly, being in town most of the time and having moved to a quiet road I'm worried it'll piss folk off, plus when I decide to "have a bit of fun" it's not exactly subtle!

Sure some kind person on here would lend you a riveting gun    Be a lot cheaper than buying another can. Having said that the fuel can does sound great. I love my blueflame can though, not too loud as long as you leave the baffle in.

I've got the Micron can on mine and it's just a nice balance of fairly quiet around town but sounds brill when howling round the twisties up the mountain roads here.
