I have to ride from Budapest to Swindon in august, but I have to do it in 24 hours, a total od 1200 miles minimum and also involves a ferry crossing.

Longest I've done in 24hrs is Bilbao to Baza (north of Almeria) - nothing like as far as you're going and still pretty tiring. How long is the ferry do you know?

I drove up north and back again yesterday, just under 500 miles - obviously nowhere near as many as you guys, but it was all in the UK

I've done 1400 miles in 21 hours but in a car not on a bike.  Personally I think you'll be pushing it even though you've got decent roads all the way.  You'll win yourself an hour at the ferry as we're an hour behind the rest of Europe but even then with the hanging around time before boarding and getting off the ferry, you're still looking at 2.5 hours total but 1.5 hours delay.

A few years ago I met a guy on a bike at some services just south of Paris.  He had been on holiday with some mates in the south of France and he had to get home earlier than the rest of them.  He had a bet on with them and he would win if they phoned his home number exactly 24 hours after he had set off and he answered.  He wanted to follow me round the Paris ring road as he wasn't sure which route he had to take.  He followed me for a while but then we hit traffic and, after I'd told him what signs he had to follow, he went off on his own.  Having got through Paris we took a leisurely run and even stopped for a meal but found him again when we got on the ferry.  He reckoned that he had got so tired and dehydrated he had started hallucinating and had been overtaking vehicles that weren't even there so had had to stop for some sleep.

I will, and regularly do, drive a car for hundreds of miles at a time but I find riding the bike much more tiring, probably because of the extra concentration needed.  I don't think you'll do it.

Kinda agree with rusty - I can't see it being done, Bilbao to Baza was about 900 odd miles, and actually took more like 30 hours incl a stop south of Madrid. Was vy tired at the end of it.

Most I've ridden in one stint is about 15 hours (can't remember the mileage). I was absolutely trashed at the end of it. I doubt that the distance was much more than 700 miles, maybe less. Trouble is, if you push it speed wise, you'll only end up with more fuel stops eating into your time. Plus of course, more risk of being caught by speed cameras/traps. The risk of having an accident as you get through the trip is also multiplying all the time as your fatigue builds. Giving yourself just 24 hrs to do this trip is a recipe for disaster IMO.

Just under 1200 miles (Ferrol, Spain -> Santiago -> Calais) in about 21 hours.  In a car with cruise control and two drivers, no sleep, lots of Red Bull and very little time stationary.

Much more fatiguing on a bike, fighting windblast, lot more strain on shoulders and arms, constantly. Plus, you had 2 drivers. Not comparable to what Solorider is thinking of. Why would you want to, if not a matter of life or death (which it may well become)?

We were completely shattered by the end of it, I wouldn't even consider trying it on a bike tbh.

Back in the '90s I took one of the first 600's out on a demo.   Ended up in Prague after a week and got a message from George Whites in Swindon asking where their bike was .
Did the 960 miles back in one hit - 20 hours - brilliant bike.  On my return I asked to buy it and was told I had to wait two months for Yamaha to start dealer deliverys.
The start of a 10 year love affair with Fazers.

I've done 850 in a normal 'daylight' day.  Not too bad.  It helped the weather was good, i wouldn't fancy doing it in the pissing rain.

I'm off to Europe tomorrow - Leaving Bristol at 530 and hope to be in Freiburg-I-B by 800pm.  About 650miles all up.

1200 in 24 hours, doable if you think of it as 2x 600miles.

OK, that's pretty impressive! Not something I'd like to try (but not exactly young and fit now!) Now consider this - when you got back, someone then approaches you and says "you've now got 4 hours to do 240 miles (average 60mph) - would you do it?

If I meet you at Freiburg and say, "no, don't stop, keep going for another 550 miles", will you do it? I think there's a difference between doable, and wise.

550 miles in 20 hours, about half of which was in crap weather (rain, heavier rain, snow, and back to heavy rain).
Bike coped better than I did if the truth be told, esp on the snow.

I did 550 miles on my FZ1 from near Cologne back to Weston in just under 8 hours, no way I would do 1200 in one go on that bike, when I got home I wanted to drop the bike in a skip I hated it that much

(I quickly got over it, and love it again)

Presumably 1 1/2 hours of that was on the ferry? - not withstanding time spent faffing either side of the ferry that's an average speed of 72mph? Pretty good going!

1001 in 21 hours.
you can do it, crossing germany can be accomplished quite quickly if you keep it sane around 100-120mph.

800 miles in 28 hours after missing the ferry from Rosslare to Cherburg.
Cork - Rosslare -Ferry- Pembroke - Dover -Ferry- Calais - Angers, 2 up and  2 ferry crossings on a fully loaded Fazer 600. Rained all the way from Pembroke to Bristol. Your trip is possible in theory but you need to take a few things to take into consideration.
1. Are you used to trips in excess of 600 miles in one day?
2. Can you maintain a high level of concentration for very long periods of time?
3. Are you used to going without sleep for 20 hours at a time?
4. Is your bike capable of at least 250 mile between refills?
If you answer no to any of the above then I would suggest you do not attempt. it.
