Zx1000sx is about the only bike that tempts me from the gen 1  as a everyday and only bike.
1050 tiger maybe if I could afford the servicing costs

If I had room for several bikes rather than one excellent all rounder. Then I would have a

BMW k1600gt
Moto Guzzi California touring
Suzuki gsxr1000

However a replacement all rounder would be a

Z1000sx

I could be forced to put up with one of my other 3 listed above lol.

And £800 for new suspension all round! The standard shock and forks are dreadful!

Money literally no object, then an MV Agusta F4 CC.
I use my bike for everything; commuting, fun and distance riding, but luckily being 21 I find most things reasonably comfortable!

Realistically though, I think my next bike (next year, or possibly year after that) will be either another FZS 1000, or possibly another ZX9R - both need some money spent on them to sort out their key weaknesses, but are then cracking road bikes. Couple years after that I can see me going for a liter sports machine, probably 1st Gen ZX10R, or 04/05 R1, but if I were going to have one of those, with the current motorway/twoup riding I do I'd probably need a second bike as well!

All it needs is the oil weight changing and then its well sorted.

Everyday - WeeStrom & a Tiger 800 (better balanced than big brother)
Playtime XJR1300/Suzuki GSX1400

There's quite a bit more to it than that, but its a start. The bad suspension is the only reason I got rid of mine. Rear spring is weighted for a 10 stone rider, rear shock is way, way under damped, and that's coming from suspension experts who rebuild them. A good bike ruined imho.

I think I could really live with the new KTM 1190 Adventure, if the first report I've read is an accurate representation. I have also considered Tiger 1050, latest Z1000, Ducati Hypermotard (but doesn't tick enough boxes), a few others - but KTM does seem to be very versatile whilst still doing what, in my opinion, a bike is for - fun factor.

If cost was an issue then a Bandit 1000.  I blame the wheelie school all those years ago!

Cost no issue - probably a Sprint, maybe a Blackbird.  That Kwak I hadn't seen before and looks nice too.  It'd be nice if there were a modern firestorm equivalent but never found a suitable option (SV looks lovely but my legs were too cramped, Aprillia Futura too ugly, same with the Ducatti ST2)

Although as I only really ride in town now could lose the fairing and go for a Monster or something similar.

If money was no object then it'd probably be a Ducati 996 so I could pay for taxis when it didn't start in the winter or pay for the spring rebuild if it did. Realistically though I like the look of the Triumph Sprint, I was thinking about the VFR as well but haven't got the room for either of them anyway....yet

Fz-09 2014 3 cylinder model.  Or maybe I'd get bugatti to design a one off for me.

Really a custom bike would be a no brainer, you'd be daft to go for something off the peg if you had an infinite budget and could get Ducati to design you something.

You've got a point there Simon. It'd be ace to walk into a bike shop with a big wad of cash and say "build me a bike".

But what kind of bike would you build? Let's stick to the rules I imposed on this thread for the moment, and say it's going to be your only bike - would you go sports/sports-tourer, adventure style, all-rounder?

would have to be a sports tourer type for me.

hmmmm......
wonder if i could put a jet engine in a fazer type frame  ;)

Pure sports bike, but with a 24L endurance tank, and some kind of brackety allowing hard luggage to be fitted!
I won't ever be going off road, and want the best from a bike in terms of it's engine, handling and brakes. To be honest, something like a K5 GSX-R1000 would probably suit me down to the ground, as I'd be after a bit of a midrange. That, combined with a bigger tank and hard luggage, and I'd have the perfect bike, able to do long distances with luggage and then hammer round the twisties when you get there. Until I hit about 40 at least, and can no longer ride one comfortably  :lol

Most people seem to be heading off in to highly predictable red Ducati territory :lol

I'd say it has to be a sports tourer of some sort if you have to use it every day.  I like Punkstig's direction, take a bike you like and bastardise (forgive the profanity, I think it's justified) it until it's what you want it to be.

The things you can't really change easily I suppose are engine size, fuel tank apart from that most of the aficionados seem to change the front forks/disc/suspension, the rear swing arms/suspension, the full monty.

I think that 600's are a nice sweet spot with fuel economy, speed and lightness, so a lightweight 2 or 3 cylinder 600cc sports tourer (I'm guessing 2-3 cylinders will be lighter than 4) with, beyond that, a shack of parts you can swap over will make it how you want, when you want.  With regard to tank size, 22 litres seems to be a nice compromise between size and capacity.

No one bike is perfect until you've changed it to how you want it :-P
