Adjusting rear brakes
« on: 09 July 2013, 09:08:33 pm »
Greetings all,

When I got my Fazer MOT'd a few weeks ago it was recommended I adjust the back brake as the lever pushes down quite a way before it engages.

Just been looking at it today & can't suss out how to undo the nut that's inside the stirrup thing (not sure what the correct noun is!) so I can move it toward the end of the thread. There's no way a spanner will fit in there, so how do my fellow foccers solve this little conundrum?

The one inside the stirrup is captive and you don't undo it. Undo the one on top the stirrup (the lock nut) and then use the one at the top of the thread to adjust it.

Might be worth getting/downloading the manual....?

Check that your brake light is still coming on and going off at the correct time after you've adjusted the lever

Cheers fellas that did the trick & the brake light still comes on too. The only thing of note was a slight pop as I got near the end, which I put down to air coming out of the rubber sheath that surrounds the piston mechanism. Hope it's nothing more than that anyway.

I do have a Haynes manual, but I was looking in the wrong section.

The same happened to my Fazer.

I thought to adjust the lever but then thought about it a bit more.

I decided to bleed the rear brake and found lots of air, this was being compressed and hence why the lever needed to be pushed down a lot before the rear brake engaged fully.

I hope this was hopeful.
