Hi

New member here, just bought 99 fazer. Totally happy with it. I've done a few jobs on it which are:

Painted fork legs
Fitted scottoiler
Changed front sprocket nut and cleaned inside cover
Overhauled rear brake and cleaned up front calipers
Oil and filter changed
Headlight mod

Today I made an alloy rad guard mainly to cover up the nasty rad. It will help protect the rad too so I can get a bit longer out of it. What do you think?.

i`ve got to be honest here.......is that going to let enough cool air through ?.......next job...clean up the downpipes

Yeah it does look a little solid in the picture. Its 3mm holes so I think it will. I don't think its any more solid than the ones on eBay, if anything I think mine has more holes.

Believe it or not I've scrubbed those down pipes with wonder wheels and emery paper. I'm gonna do them again on the next wash and try to get them super shiny.

ah...thats a better picture.....i would still keep a close eye on it though,especially on a warm summers day in traffic

Anyone got any super duper tips for cleaning hem down pipes. Ive been at them with wonder wheels and emery, wire brush, scotchpad etc. They are loads better but I'm lazy and want something easier.

Try polishing them with kitchen foil and water

Optiglanz mate, you'll get it in Hein Gericke for about £12 and works a treat just dont get it on your skin or eyes. It will burn the crap off your pipes no problem and wash away with water, theres a you tube video on the thread about rusty downpipes if you want a look.

Yes: sit on the bike, start her up. Go for a ride, gass it. Then stop for a beer. Than gass it home. After you spend July, August and September in that manner, if you still care about what the bloody down pipes look like - you'll have plenty of time for polishing during the winter.

I'd go with paint polishing paste to make them nice and smooth, unless you're planning on painting them over. I'd also try some Balistol soaking first, to remove rust (if there is any).
