Using choke
« on: 24 June 2013, 12:51:36 am »
My 03 fazer always seems to want choke to start it, is this a typical fazer trait? I know my old kawak was like this

I think this is pretty normal depending on the weather.
in the colder months i always start with full choke reducing instantly and slowly down to no choke over several seconds.
moderate days i use half choke
hot days it can start on the button with no choke and no throttle.
also just checking but do you always use throttle when starting up the bike & do you let the fuel pump do its thing first after switching on the ignition as if not then next time just try with using the button without any choke and after a few seconds of letting the fuel pump stop ticking.Probably stating the obvious there but felt i should say it anyway. :)

Probably varies from bike to bike, as long as it's running ok when off choke I wouldn't worry.  Mine starts fine at the moment with no choke, during the winter I open it fully, start up, ride away and shut it straight away.

If starting with choke, one should use no throttle.
If starting without choke, give it some throttle, gently.

Like people said - if it works fine when warmed up - don't sweat it.

My choke cable is broken; I start my bike as above especially in the winter months.
If I don’t hold the revs steady in the winter months and it cuts out it’s a lot of fun trying to start the bike again.
