Looks like my jacket is beginning to absorb more water than it repells, has anyone had any joy with this stuff:

or should I give in and get a new jacket?

I've used the wash-in version to revive my breathable waterproof kit in the past. It seems to do a decent job. Worth a try.

Nikwax is good stuff.
If your gear is goretex give it a wash then tumble dry it, this will 'sort out' the goretex fibres.
Failing that, you may want to change your name !!!!

Some of the breathable fabrics are better washed with soap flakes instead of detergent, I think detergents tend to mess up the waterproofing.

The stuff I used, which I can't now remember the name of, you had to iron it to finish the sealing process.....so yes I guess this counts as an ironing thread afterall

Detergents will break down the durable Water repellent (dwr) coating so don't wash with normal washing powder. Nikwax tech wash is the right stuff to clean it with and then Nikwax tx direct puts on a new dwr coating to get the beading of water on the surface back. Saying all that I used a bottle of scotch guard on my jacket last time it lost its beading effect - which seems to have lasted loads longer, but I don't think it's very breathable!! The other make that's worth a try is grangers. See here:
http://www.grangers.co.uk/
or here:
http://www.nikwax.com/en-gb/index.php
for info.
Any of the aforementioned should revive your waterproof kit. Hope you remain dry, Rob :-)
