Sickening Hypocrisy
« on: 15 June 2013, 08:52:20 pm »
Monday is "National Ride To Work Day".
I've been contemplating whether or not to say anything about this here on FOC-U, but I just can't hold it in anymore.
I work for a well known bike accessories company, and on Friday a number of internal e-mails bounced around.
"Please would anyone who has a bike come in on it on Monday, so we can take some photos to show how we're supporting the industry" - from one executive who doesn't even own a motorcycle.
"I'm up for a lift in on the back of a bike if anyone's willing" from a manager who also doesn't ride motorcycles.
There's maybe six people who work there that own bikes and ride regularly. No one else is even particularly interested in bikes.
Well, I've been "supporting the bike industry" for over 30 years now, rarely owned cars, and don't need some stuck-up management types telling me when I should be riding one.
D'ya think I should go in by car just to piss them off?

It would not change how I get into work but I would not allow them to use me or your bike as a photo opportunity.

Bit of a "Catch 22" I can understand your predicament but also wouldn't want to give up a chance to show bikes in a positive way.

I wouldn't let it worry you.

But I do find it really annoying, for some reason,  to deal with someone who has no interest in bikes in a bikeshop.      I wonder if I'm being a bit picky.  I mean,  if I go into mcdonalds,  I don't expect the server to be really into burgers  :lol

Can you arrange a good discount for foccers with your work??

I was dreading this, but knew it was coming.
Unfortunately, I work in the warehouse, a distribution centre only, and so cannot arrange discount schemes or anything like that. Believe me, it was one of the first things I thought about having joined this forum. I used to be able to do discount for customers when I worked in bike shops, but not here alas. If there were any way...
