European trip
« on: 24 May 2013, 09:49:42 am »
Just got back from a 2 week, 3000 mile tour of Europe taking in Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France and Spain. The Fazer never missed a beat, and with heated grips, was the perfect companion  :D

Awesome pics man, would love to do something like this but I'd be two up - not sure where I'd find room for all the missuses 'essentials'....

I tried to pack light but only just fitted all MY gear on the bike! I am glad I didn't take the boss (in a good way) as there were a couple of motorway slogs and a couple of wet days which she wouldn't have liked. Tested my enthusiasm a bit with seven hours of rain riding one day  :rolleyes

Were you solo or did you go with a group of friends?

Just me and a mate. Ride most of the day and find a hotel wherever we ended up.

Sounds awesome. Hopefully my brother gets another bike soon and I will be able to do something similar.

Switzerland for me was the highlight of the trip. Around every corner you think "bloody hell, look at that view!" You are gonna love it, just hope the weather is good for you.
I have pictures of my mates bike but didn't want to ruin the photo. He has a Transalp....  :rolleyes

Fabulous pictures and I bet it was a great ride. Switzerland has some 'technical' bends up some of those mountains eh.
I'm myself am off to Germany tomorrow, I'm heading for one night on the French border then traveling east and veering North to the Harz area during the week. I'm taking madam on the pillion as far as Strasbourg were she's meeting friends then I'm solo and can start to use the throttle a little more vigorously... :evil

I'm hoping to go to the Munich area September time but was thinking of flying down and hiring a Fazer 600. I rode 200 miles recently with a few stops and was almost crippled so the thoughts of doing 800 miles fills me with terror. Also I only have about a week or so and want to try to go to Austria and maybe Stelvio too.
Also I'll be on my own and am a bit of a scaredy cat.

I can recomend this place in western austria , great hotel, really look after you , and its not far from stelvio plus central to so many areas- www.weissespitz.com  . Its set in a lovely glacial valley called kaurnetal, which itself has a mini stelvio ride up to the ski lift at top of the valley. Its  a run actually used by mercedes to test their cars...I am going there in late june.

alternatively if its just the stelvio you want , try accomodation in Bormio, Italy. Its right at the foot of the stelvio on its south side. Not that much going on south of bormio, but very handy for stelvio. Its why I prefer to stay in the tirol as it offers so many possibilities. Take a look on google maps.

Thanks for the info Pitternator, I'm staying with my Neice who lives just outside Munich but I'm totally green about where to visit whilst I'm there. Any suggestion are all welcome? I'm flying down and hiring a bike for a week, probably a Fazer600.
