Pushing the front
« on: 21 May 2013, 08:35:05 am »
Question for you more experiencing bikers...

I was checking my tyres the other day and noticed I don't have any chicken strips on the front (it's not a brag honest!).
The thing is I don't feel like I have been leaning the bike to the limit, I.e pegs down, but if I'm already on the edge of the front,
if I try and lean further, won't I be going beyond the tyre limits?

Michelin pr3 tyres by the way.
I don't recall ever not having chicken strips on the front with previous tyres.

I for one don't think this is possible as the way the tyres are designed the rear will be taken to the edge well before the front. How about posting some pictures of the front and rear tyre so we can see for ourselves. ;)

This is possible, this is a brag :)) bit both my tyres are completely chicken strip free Thank you very much. Suspension setup and riding style are the main factors

The tyre will deform under the stress of cornering.  Basically it changes shape and maintains a good contact patch.

You've gotta be going some to do that on pr3's and a fazer!
Racers struggle to do that on slicks!

haha, nice one brace.

I've got a pic, just need to put it on a host first, that means cranking up the slow laptop, will do that this afternoon.
Also got a video of the last ride, although, could get into trouble if anyone of authority views it ;-)

And my PC is so old it keeps crashing when I try to process my videos...

normally on the fazer its bodywork grounding out which is the lean angle limit. Its actually no great shake to have no chicken strips, I have done 14 trackdays on fazers, and you should see the state of the tyres afterwards. My limit is when the crash bungs went down as it stood the bike up mid corner at 70mph...luckily cadwell has plenty of run off, and after a ewan moment wobbling on the grass, got back on again safely ! Suspension being set soft on fazers  wont help as the pegs do deck out quite easily. My sussies are full Ktech and set properly, so its a good angle of dangle to deck stuff out.

I am running PR3s on my GS, and I have to say the grip is uncanny in the wet. I did a mini tour of wales last weekend, and was grounding the pegs out in the wet on the A44. Never had so much lean ever in the wet on any bike. They are in another class IMO.In the dry I dont think they are as good as say an 023, as I can feel them squirming a bit, no doubt from tread movement as this is a soft compound tyre. The fully loaded GS sure shocked some sports bikes last weekend !  LOL

Have to agree with you there pitternator, I've found that my pegs ground out before I edge the rear tyre.
