The brotherhood is dead, long live the brotherhood!

My 20 mile ride to work this afternoon took me down some of the popular bike routes. I must have passed 20+ bikes in the 1/2 hour it took me to get to Preston.
 I gave my usual nod to every bike that passed me, only to be disgusted with no more than 6-8 returns of a nod. 10 years ago that would have been 20+ returns!

The friendliest biker was a HD883 rider that pulled up next to me at the lights, he was chatty, and a right laugh. This is a far cry from the serious riders that passed me.

It looks like the brotherhood is pretty much dead and buried:'(

When there's lots of bikes about you can't nod at everyone or your head falls off.
Also, when at the cafe you listen around you and there are a lot of dickheads around who I wouldn't nod at if they were on fire.

Don't get me wrong if I come across a bike stopped I will give assistance if required - even to a dickhead

I know what you mean, some days everyone will nod back, others not single returned nod. I've completely given up with mopeds - I have NEVER had one return a nod. Learners can be as bad, but I give the benefit of the doubt as some of them do

Went out for an hour this morning and didn't see any bikes at all     I do tend to nod until I get into London, then I'm too busy filtering.

I went out this afternoon and got a few nods back, but on my way home a bike came round a bend near Lund and gave the salute!! I just nodded back then realised but he'd gone oops sorry. So if you read this I'll try harder next time.

I agree, long live the brotherhood.  I always nod, and return nods, but not everyone does. Pity really, I think its nice to feel part of a brotherhood of bikers, but I guess everyone has their own view.

The other thing, someone with L plates on is obviously not going to be as competent as a trained rider, so perhaps they are spending too much time focusing on what could potentially hit them rather than making friends. Don't get me wrong, I always returned a nod when I had L plates on, but I would let the 'big biker' initiate it always.
 
Now I'm a fully fledged member of the 'big bikers society' I nod at anyone and everyone, even the t-shirt wearing suicide mopeds.

Does it matter anyway, maybe due to the aspect they haven't seen you nod or they are concentrating on something else?

Generally if i get a nod, I'll give a nod. I won't often initiate it though if i have the Mrs on the back as if i don't get one back i feel like a dickhead    That might be part of the problem ? Each biker might be waiting for the other to initiate it and by the time you have decided if you are going to do it or not, it's too late   
I don't think the brotherhood is totally dead though. I was out for a ride a couple of weeks back and pulled over for a quick break and leg stretch. It was a cold but dry day and there weren't many bikes about but a Harley rider pulled over to ask me if everything was OK    I was pretty shocked but appreciated it all the same. Thanks fella.

 I gave assistance to a dickhead a few weeks ago, I fixed his front puncture with a can of sealant I had with me. but got no thanks for it. All because of my partner. Madam is a fairly well known BBC presenter/journalist and the guy with the puncture got a little starstruck and couldn't help himself chatting her up - and completely ignored me fixing his bloody bike! Even after his tyre was inflated and I advised him to get going to a garage he shook HER by the hand and thanked HER for helping him out. I've got used to becoming invisible when she's recognised but this guy was just a little bit bloody  ungracious!

 Sorry, not telling. Don't get excited, she's employed for her brains rather than looks (that what she says) She presents science type stuff and never appears on anything as a guest celeb, too brainy. No, not that Vorderman airhead I might add, (I can't stand that woman).
