Never used these products before, are they worth it

Never been a fan of engine flushes of any sort
 I always feel as though they soften any grud in the engine but it doesnt always flush out so your left with it floating around in your new oil !
Redex I've used a few times on my old car a MK2 escort but that was a long time ago , Yes it did help the car not much though , as for a bike , I,ve never used it on ay of mine so I cant offer much help there

I use redex for the bike and car to keep the lines clean and it aids in the emissions on the car. The flush i would not touch for love or money as I have read pleanty of horror stories. what I can make out the flush is good on older vehicles from the 80's but then they are on their last legs if that stuff needs to be used.

Redex has been around for years, it was sold on forecourts and you put a couple of "shots" in when you filled up with petrol. Sold as an upper cylinder lubricant but I think it nearly died out when unleaded petrol came in.
Wynns came over from the USA in the 60`s or 70`s if my memory serves me correct, it was all the rage with racing cars for a while, it was supposed to make all the internal surfaces more smooth and slippery and improve performance.
Don`t know if either were any good.

I would have thought an engine in condition would be clean, an engine which needs work would need specialist attention rather than a bottle of junk shoving in to it.

Having said that I use it, once every 20k miles isn't going to hurt the pocket too much but that's cos I can afford to.  I do suspect it's a snake oil product though.

I stuck Redex in my Fazer, and it didn't do a blind bit of difference.

Worse, my mechanic has heard stories of bikes running WORSE after Redex. Might as well save my pennies.

Only ever used a fuel system/injector cleaner in my old cage that was having trouble meeting MOT emissions. Wouldn't waste my money on Redex etc

 I put in the fazer now and again, but if im not using it for a while i put some in , with some carb cleaner , trying to keep the carbs from clogging up, We used to put it in our fizzys , take the plug out and stick it straight dow the barrel, used to make a lovely smoke screen!, lord knows what it did to the internals

No?- then no need for these products
Yes? The only thing I've stuck in as a fuel additive is silkolene pro fst to clean out carbs and lines.
Still running issues? Then none of this crap will help!

put some carb cleaner in a mk3 cortina 2000 GT it shifted all the grunge...... into the pilot jets, took weeks to clear?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't engine flush go into the coolant system?

edit: just checked the flush stuff and it is indeed for the oil system. Probably wouldn't use it myself as many have said, if it needs flushing, then there is probably something wrong. The oil itself, changed regularly is supposed to clean the engine internals. I'd just check the condition of the oil when you take it out. Any massive metallic lumps = flushing the engine won't help, stripping it to find the cause probably will.

I stuck some redex in my tank when I went to pick my new bike up as it had been standing for 6 months, just to help out with the old petrol. Just filled up normally since then and everythings been fine, but I couldn't tell you if it was down to the redex or not. Only bought it as it was only £1 in Tesco and I noticed it whilst wandering around.

If you have a car with noisy hydraulic tappets, Wynn's Engine Flush will work wonders.  My old 74,000 mile Kia was making such a metallic racket that people would stare at me in traffic queues.


Stuck in a tin of this, fast revved for 15 minutes then dropped the oil; problem cured.


Wouldn't use it on a perfectly serviceable bike though.

About a year ago I decided to bring my old 1200 Bandit back into use, it had been sitting in the garage unloved & unused for a couple of years. 

Even with fresh petrol it was running like a dog, I was about to strip the carbs off to give them a proper clean when I remembered there was an unopened bottle of Redex that had been left in the garage by the previous occupant.  I figured I'd be no worse off if it didn't do anything so I threw some into the tank & went out for a run, within a few miles it started to feel smoother & after 50 it was running fine.

I'd always been a bit of a cynic about these products, so was pleasantly surprised.
