Fzs600 prices, HELP
« on: 08 May 2013, 11:14:52 pm »
Hi guys I have a dilemma, can you help?
I have seen two fazers for sale, the first:-
2001 on a Y, low mileage 11000 great condition £1600
2003 Foxeye low mileage 6500 great condition £2500
I love the foxeye but what do you guys think on prices & in general the choice?
Thanks in advance guys, Stew

Others seem to say that £1600 is a decent price for a boxeye, I got my tatty one from a dealer for £1700.

All I would say is that £2500 is quite a sum for a ten year old bike....

£2500 is a lot of money for that age of bike. If it's a dealer knock them down as close to £2000 as you can and get a years warranty, at least 6 months tax and a years MOT on it. Depends a lot on condition though. You say it's great, have you seen it up close (as in nose touching it?)

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Id say that 1600 is fair for the box eye

Mine was 2000 from a yam stealer which was a wee tad pricey, but it only had 9000 miles on it.

Youve gotta love the bike though & the box eye, like me has a face only a mother could love :D , personally i prefer its retro looks but if you really like the look of the fox eye then id wait til another comes along at a better price.

The MCN review says (cruelly) that it looks "80's Disco".

The Foxeyes always seemed overpriced to me (even at £2k) but it they are just more expensive. I think I prefer the boxeye though - the foxeye just doesn't quite have the looks right for me compared to the thou...

i have had 3 fazer,s.1 was a 99 fazer and 2 foxeye,d bikes.
i would recommend the later foxeye as the earlier model lights are crap.without mods.
i got my 02 fazer for £1200 3 years ago with 13,000 miles.although i had to travel to scotland to get it. :eek .

I was looking for an FZS 600 in March/April and studying ASKING prices on ebay, MCN, etc there doesn't seem to be much logic/pattern.
I decided on the Foxeye as it has better lights/tank range so that narrowed the field to 02/03 models.  £2k should get you a bike with service history/12 months MOT, 6 months tax. If you are new to bike buying take a knowledgeable friend & don't get carried away/seduced by looks alone. A well cared for bike with useful mods like braided brake hoses, stainless steel exhaust headers, crash bungs, rear carrier is a better proposition than one that looks like a t***s handbag.
If buying from dealer you should have more protection than private sale-HPI check good idea/check details on V5 match bike/seller.
General neglect/presence of corrosion indicates bike has not been cared for. There can be a world of difference between 2 identical machines-unrelated to mileage covered. :eek
In a nutshell: Know your budget for bike purchase. Allow for service costs if no evidence work done as recommended. Tyres? Brake Pads? Chain & Sprockets? Does everything work-lights/indicators/brake lights/horn.
If not entirely happy-walk away. Theres plenty more out there! :lol

£2500 is hellish high for an '03 bike; I were looking at an '03 at £1800 (trader) last year, and bought a'58 plate S2, 10,500 miles for £3500 (same shop).

How much would you pay for a 2001 bike to get:

6000 miles less.
2 years younger.
BETTER headlights (which is the biggest flaw of the boxeye).
2 more litres in the fuel tank (handy).

Is all that worth 900 pounds? If it is, do you have the money?

All comes down to that.

I got a fox eye back in the beginning of 2010 with the exact same milage at the same price. I went for it and was happy as larry, it had a few extra bits, hugger, bellypan and fenda extender. Viewed it twice, the second time with a knowledgable mate and when i walked into the shop the owner said give us your card otherwise this gentleman wants in now. It will sell for that price even if you don't want it.

So 3 years later they are still going for the same price, i expect the low milage is keeping the price up, but check out the high milage thread in the general section.
If you do go for the fox eye you wont be disappointed.

i got a 1998 fzs600 with 30k on the clock for £895. Although there is a crack in the right back fairing and a scrape in the exhaust from where the previous owner dropped it.

I am a massive fan of the foxeye. I think that was the best looking and best Fazer. I own a 2003 model one on an 04 plate. condition and mileage reflects the price I guess. I wouldnt say £2500 was high for a 2003 bike with 6000 miles on it. If its a bike someone wants and its real clean then someone will pay more for it. Id rather pay more for a minter than less for somthing with dents in the tank etc cause that would annoy me!!! bikes hold there money these days anyway

If that was a 2000 R6 with 6000 on then it would sell easy for £2500

A good service history makes it worth more for me. My bike costs around 500 euros per season. Tyres, pads, chains etc - it all adds up. If that's all new, you've got 500 or more euros "added" value, compared to a bike with worn replaceable parts. It's not the same 2003 bike if the rear shock absorber is worn, or replaced and almost brand new. Etc.

Still, a 10+ year old bike should have all the rubber parts almost rotten, and that can be annoying. Most seals will be due for a change. So when I bought my Fazer it was a bit under 10 years old, wouldn't buy it now, but I'm also very happy with it and don't see me selling it either.

When I was looking for a Foxeye-saw one for sale in Wolverhampton-would have bought it 12000miles & £1800(negotiable)- with a few minor scratches on side of rear fairing but someone beat me to it! Cheapest one Ive seen advertised was 1700 & dearest 2500-theres no logic in it since you could buy a tidy Gen 1 thou for the same money. must be demand-cheaper tax, insurance, good mpg & best all round sub 1000cc bike you can buy (im slightly prejudiced here!)

I paid 2300 for a box eye with 30 thou on the clock, its a 2000 model, not a mark on it like brand new, worth every penny.

I paid 2000 for '03 fox eye with 19000 on the clock. Service history wasn't brilliant but it was from one owner and from last year did not do a single mile. I asked someone experienced to have a look on it and the answer was: If you like the bike just take it. Sounds great, looks great, chain, pads, discs nearly new, very good tyres and only one small chip between the lights :-( but very very tiny. Otherwise great. I was happy to pay 2000 for it. There were plenty slightly cheaper with double miles and year or two older but this one was the one I liked. And now I love it ;-)
