Didn't look as though he was going especially fast, not purely a case of speed.


Difficult to get a sense of how sharp the corner is from the video, or the visibility as he drives around it, but his from his head position it looks as though he's looking ahead.


Still he doesn't seem to reduce the throttle until last minute, nor steer more sharply in to the corner. Maybe a bit of target fixation?


He doesn't seem to cut the throttle until the last minute, but when we does it looks like he brakes, and the bike stands up and goes in a straight line in to unfortunate cyclists.


Thoughts? What went wrong here?

I've just watched it again, and there is an initial reaction before he later reacts by braking.

You can see the bike *twitch as he spots them.

I can sympathise with the biker and the cyclists.

What an unfortunate situation a lack of experience I'm all too familiar with.  Both of my drops have happened under 15 mph although neither were target fixation (though I've been close before)

Maybe the cyclist should have been wearing full leathers including boots and gloves. plus a full face helmet and dayglo jacket.

he wasnt looking through the corner early on, saw the bikes late then target fixated on them.
did the same thing to a parked car mid corner when i was a teen. slammed right in to it when it could have easily been avoided.

Thats really odd, he appears to do nothin until the last second.
I agree target fixation followed by paralysed by indecision is my diagnosis.

Biker does not look to be going to fast as the bike stops relatively close. Appears bikers obs are all wrong with to much concentration on looking into the corner and been blind to near risks. Would like to know what the sun was doing at the time and whether this is a contributing factor.

the irony is that if he'd gone right of the tredders onto the dirt he'd have missed them....shit them up a bit but better than the actual result.
always, always, always look for the way OUT of the problem, not at it!!! suppose it's easier said than done and perhaps you can't learn 30+ years experience

Also - who the f*ck let him get up!??!?!?  An impact like that and the fall to the ground is a TOTAL candidate for neck/back injuries...  Best off keeping him where he was until paramedics checked him out.

Point taken. Looking further into vid and it looks like a 45 degree corner and he seems to be looking further up the road until he begins to straighten up where the ho shit factor kicks in and as you have said fixation.

Bloody Norra, has that fella ever ridden a motorcycle before.  Or did he black out or something?

It makes a good add for cyclists wearing helmets, I think the first one might dead or have long term brain damage if not for his wee foam hat.

As it is that one serious impact and I hope both those cyclists are OK.

looks like it was the bikers fault the cyclists were near to the verge, unlike the pack of a dozen or so that were 2 and 3 abreast on the road from Cawood to Ryther last week, however I managed to get past on a tight left hander without hitting any of them, it must of been my lucky day....................... and theirs................lol.

looks like an inexperienced biker ,he travels from centre of road to the edge to get the cyclists. Road position totally wrong to see through the bend and he seems not to have the confidence to hit a greater lean angle and hit the throttle to duck round them.
