Speedo troubles again!
« on: 09 April 2013, 03:01:26 am »
Hi all!

So I was riding home from my mates today and my speedo just started jumping around and being very erratic.

The rev counter works fine, no problems there.

I have changed the speedo censor back in October as the speedo wasn't working. Since then all I have done is check the breaks by taking the front caliper off, I checked the breaks put it back on and the speedo was working fine. This was last week when I checked the breaks.

Any suggestions?

Did you ever get to have a look at the speed sensor itself? Had a problem with mine as a couple of lads here did but I don't think it was being erratic it just stopped working........ Sounds more like a poor connection, I also had this problem(yea I'v had alot of problems haha).
I hope it's not this but worth a little look, the main speedo connection in the junction box under the tank beside the coolant cap is the big white connection, it's the biggest one in that box, maybe just unplug and check for a little corrosion, mine corroded that much that I'm now missing 4-5 little connectors, by sheet luck I got the speedo and lights working and I had to cable tie it together as everytime I hit a bump in the road I lost everything( not fun at night).
The brake caliper won't really effect this unless you damaged the wire going to the speed sensor.

If you get a chance just make sure both lugs are there and in working order

Im not sure if th9is is going to be of any help but !

I have a thou and had something almost the same all the eletrics were ok except the speedo which would jump around like a dog in snow ! it turned out to be the main connecter from the battery underneither the petrol tank !

Im sure the 600's will be different but Im also sure the'll have a connector almost the same somewhere might be worth checking

a quick spray with wd40 and all my probs went away !

Cheers for the help, I'll have a look under the tank and see if I look at the speed censor on the front wheel.

Did you route the cable correctly when you put the brake caliper back on?

Brake disk slicing into the cable makes the speedo flail about wildly...

(In my case, it was fine once I rerouted it, even with a big nick out of the cable, bit of insulating tape, cross fingers)

Never thought of that, I'll have a look tomorrow. It has been since I took the caliper to tell you the truth.
