HPI check
« on: 17 March 2013, 03:23:53 pm »
Is it worth having one done ?

The bike is a Y reg so I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be any outstanding finance but I was thinking theft and/or written off.

Any advice on the cheapest place for a full check ?

Personally I would never buy without getting a check done - many options, I used hpi when I bought the tiger in September

Well worth it if you want peace of mind.
I once bought a VFR of an old fella, nice bike low miles had a cracked panel that was from a drop when he was putting it on the center stand or so he told me, turned out it was a cat C.
Bit of a blessing really, I soon got shut and bought my first Fazer 1000.

The bike is £970 from a guy on ebay with a good feedback rating.

Still go for a full check including outstanding finance?

I find it hard to believe you could have outstanding finance on an old bike like that but I will happily listen to your wisdom.

Cheers
Simon

Finance, aye you're probably fine, but the write off / stolen thing is a whole different story.

I forget what an hpi check costs (30 at a guess, may have come down) but when you're spending a grand, seems cheap for peace of mind

If you're buying from an unknown source, I would get one.
If you know the seller personally (whether private or trader), then you can judge whether to trust them or not; I bought my bike from a dealer (whom I know and trust and have used for years) without HPI.

A Y-reg bike is unlikely to have finance owing, but may well have been down the road (possibly more than once), stolen, or cloned.

If it's from fleabay, I would get one done - I know there are bargains on it, but there's plenty scrap metal too.

For an FZS600 (can't see ebay at work, just assuming by the price) and for that money I'd assume that at some point in it's life it has been written off.  Nothing really to worry about imo as long as it's still straight... mine's been written off three times since the beginning of 2010 and it's still going ok :D

If it was a £5k bike however, I'd spend out on an HPI check.

If they can't even spell Volkswagen correctly it makes me doubt the validity of the rest of their info.

I got a check done, I have no idea of the quality of the supplier but then again I'm not in the motor industry and don't do this often.  It doesn't look like it's been written off which is okay news.
