"I assume that's why most of us are still up at this hour." most of the members are Tapatalk users whose phones are "viewing the portal" while their owners sleep. See here: http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?action=who

And yes, I'm on night shifts at the mo :)

You not alone Chris - I'm on day 6 of 7 providing 24 hour cover for fire investigation in the North East of Scotland

- our shift pattern is changing soon and it can't come soon enough - 7 days is too long on 24 !

7 days is nuts man! Think the most i've done was 4 in a row. Know people, friend that's a nurse, that regularly used to do 10+ nights in a row... Crazy...

Anyway, off to bed now!

Night all,

I know this one well. 12 hour day/night shifts atm. Its good watching them go to work when I'm going home, but 1/2 the time I can't remember the 20 mile journey home I'm that knackered, and that's quite scary on the bike!!

Ye, it is a bit scary when you get home and think... How did I get here, I can remember leaving work and arriving at home but nothing in between... That's the main reason I always take my car to work the other reason being my blueflame exhaust might be a bit loud for the old people at half 7 in the morning right outside their windows. haha.

It is a great feeling when the morning staff come into the unit around 20 - 25 past 7 but from 6 until they arrive is the longest hour and a bit of my life. haha. Still that's usually when some of our residents want to get up so keeps me busy for that last hour.

Chris - what's it like riding a bike on Shetland - no traffic jams I guess ? Been watching 'Shetland' the programme on TV. Roads look interesting ! No trees to get in the way either ? Mark

Hey,

Shetland is a beuatiful place to ride a bike or indeed to live  8)

What did you think of the program? It showed mostly single track raods but generally that isn't what Shetland roads are like. There are a few lovely stretches of tarmac up here, lovely sweeping bends etc. No traffic to speak of really, You do have to be carefull of sheep as sometimes they can get out of their fields in some of the more rural areas but not something you usually have to worry about. You should come and visit shetland sometime. As you say very little amount of trees which means that the beautiful views aren't blocked by anything.  8)

Hi Chris - Program was general detective stuff, good but not great. Yes most of the road shots seemed to be done on one stretch, which looked like it was meant to be on one of the outlying islands. A bit different to the M25 down near me ! Looking at the map, some of the long stretches of road look delicious. Tried the beers a few times while in Edinburgh. Yes a visit to Shetland is definitely on my list.

Hey,

I watched the program too, it was a bit sureal seeing all the places etc. I liked it, thought it wasn't bad for a first episode. Although it was supposed to have been set in bressay most of the filming was actually done in whiteness just over the hill from where I live and a lot of the roads the showed were down at the south end of the island.

The thing is that some of the roads here are great and are always nice to ride along but after you've had a bike and been out for a few runs then you've covered most of the roads and it does get a bit boring riding the same roads all the time.

You should definately come up some time, it is beautiful. PM me if you do and I can show you about some nice places that the guide books don't tell you. That goes for anyone else reading this too.  8)

Anyway, back on topic and more to the point back on nightshift... Tonight is dragging much more than last night. be glad to get home in the morning!

Continuing with the original topic, I am a programmer and work from home. The major advantage is that my boss really doesn't mind too much as to what hours I work, as long as I actually work and meet deadlines. I am essentially "on call" 7 days a week and am very flexible around hours (have worked 8am - 2am before now) and in return I get to sleep in pretty much every morning :D

The last few days has marked the release of two major games for me though, which has made me nocturnal... staying up till 7 - 8am then sleeping for 4~ hours and back to grinding away - this is what sparked my Gamers thread, my friends and family think I'm crazy but I find their interesting in football and rugby equally baffling. Currently enjoying the MLG StarCraft II Winter Championships :D

Cool,

Nice to have such a flexable job. Although demanding of your time when you are busy at least you are doing something you enjoy  8)

Yeah, it's awesome with things being so flexible - really love this aspect after working a standard retail job.

Doing something I enjoy... you mean gaming whilst I'm supposed to be working right? :lol
