hello popeye, I have the 08 model and the only advise i can give is to keep it above 4000 revs as it pulls better from there. other than that it suits me perfectly

You might like it, it seems most owners praise them, i love mine.

I have dropped the front cog one tooth, i think its made it better at starting off from standstill, and overtaking usually means no change down,

As for rear shock, well mine ride was harsh, well bouncy if you see what i mean, hit a bump and it would launch me off the seat.

I looked in my manual and followed the set up steps, made it a bit softer and its brill, rides the bumps well.

I am 11 1/2 stone wet, so maybe fatter, hhmmm i mean bigger riders squash the shock more,i dunno,

I did notice a flat spot at low speed crusing,25 to 30 mph, turn the throttle and it would stutter then go.

I would say mine does not now need to be at 4000 revs, its shit hot at all revs,i have modded the secondry flies,it helped at start off, the best was my power commander, second hand off ebay off the same bike.

The fuelling is as smooth as you could ever wish.Any revs , twist n go.

So i would if trying another of the same as mine, check rear ride on bumps, feel for the flat spot,or spots.

I cant see there being much more to worry about, and i reckon easily sorted.Oh and of course, has it an after market can?

This may be the cause for a flat spot. So if standard can , it may be fine.

is that why no one mods up a gen 1 ?
i think not.

Its a superb bike , like lots of things it can be improved, you may like to improve yours.

As with an aweful lot of bikes the manufacturers got the fuelling a bit wrong, alot of bikes splutter, but it sure is easy and alot of fun if you go further and improve them more,,try it.

Better off on a Gen1

Yeah with the gen1 you only have to

Get a new exhaust
Ivan-ize / fully monty
Sort the front suspension
New rear shock
Sort out the exup...

:D

Just messing! I have a gen2 and I love it - have also ridden a very sorted gen1 and loved it

Different bikes mind!

thanks guys, i have now ridden a Gen 2 and a sprint. IMHO i enjoyed the fazer but loved the sprint, its just so much fun, for me anyway. i so wanted to love the fazer and maybe set my expectations too high but it just didnt put a huge grin on my face. I think i have made my decision but will test both again. :)  thanks
