According to Westfield Fasteners, they're acorn nuts, but in Screwfix they're dome nuts. :lol

Last week i fitted the Ventura tail pack I bought several years ago. Changed spark plugs, with the help of Justy1000. God bless him. I think they were the original ones and the bike has done over 45,000. No issues with the old plugs but wanted the piece of mind of new ones with my upcoming trip to Scotland. Also did an oil and filter change and cleaned the K+N air filter. I've bought a fuel filter which I'll replace as soon as it arrives and new tyres in a week or 2 once funds allow.

A ride to Cannock Chase to see an old friend, then to the K1 Cafe, near Uttoxeter, and back home to Wrexham. A nice condition GS 750 at the cafe. Beautiful warm day, light traffic. 150 miles.

The exhaust has been blowing a bit from the connection between the cat pipe and the 4 into 1 pipe that leads from the headers, so I decided to replace the gasket.

I realised that I'd need to remove the headers too, but even though the nuts on them are almost new (installed when I had the engine changed last year) they were already starting to rust, as were the mounting studs, so I've decided to replace them with stainless steel ones.

In the mean time, whilst I'm waiting for them to be delivered, I bled the rear brakes as they were getting a little soft and the MOT is coming up.

Now I've just got to wait for the new studs and nuts, then replace the rear gasket and I should be good to go :thumbup

Had a whizz down to Portsmouth to watch the D-Day remembrance fly past. Met up with Flooky for a quick catch up, then headed east to Beachy Head to watch the flight of Dakotas en route to Normandy. The Daks takeoff time from Duxford,  was delayed somewhat, which made for quite a wait on an exposed windy hillside. Glad I toughed it out as they were quite a spectacle. Then A22 London bound, rolling on the drive with 222.2 miles exactly, on the clock.

Fantastic and a great effort - that dakota gathering will not happen again I think.

New front Road Tech 01 fitted this afternoon. Bolted on the pannier frames, as planning to set off on Sunday to do the NC500. Weather forecast for northern Scotland is quite favourable for next week. Hope it stays that way.

A busy week fettling my Thou'. New 023's on. Finally fitted the lamb skin seat cover and a cigar lighter socket and double USB thingy on the handle bars. Not sure whether I like it there though. I also changed the fuel filter although I don't think I needed too as the old one was clean inside as shown in picture. Another needed to do job was get the center stand repaired, it had rusted through.

Just got back from a ride to Port Vale Football Club, Stoke on Trent, where a Staffordshire Bikers' Breakfast event was held. Very well attended. One of the stands was manned by a paramedic who featured on 'Emergency Bikers'. I got chatting to two local bikers, one of whom was a ' foccer '. Good to meet you lads. I attach a photo of his immaculate 2003 FZS 600.

Smiled a lot because I am back on the road after a 2 year absence. I forgot how brilliant it is to ride a good bike. Happiness is flies in the eyes  ;)

Sort of managed to get the flickering LCD display on my FZ6-SA sorted, by putting a bit of plastic to shim under the display to stop it vibrating.

At some point I may take it apart entirely, but there's a bloody big lump of sealant you have to remove and I didn't want to bugger that up as the MOT is due!

I also cleaned out a weeping fork seal with the bit of plastic milk carton trick and then took it out for a quick ride with some heavy braking to make sure it was sorted.

Took the mighty thou on a bimble around wiltshire , starting with breakfast at loomies , then headed west on the A272 to winchester , then cross country too Durrington to have a look at a fake stonehenge , then onto woodhenge and finally onto the real thing , then headed home via Devizes , onto Swindon , oxford and home , about 260 miles in total including a few detours   :lol

An early start saw us down the A29 to Bury Hill by 08:30, although this wasn't such a great idea, as we'd got there before the staff who run the caff had opened up. The field adjoining the carpark was slowly filling with classic cars, so at least we had a distraction whilst waiting for the kitchen to get fired up. One car that did catch my eye was a P6 V8 Rover estate, one of only 8 made with a manual box.
My pal from Bognor on his US import Blade turned up in time for the sausage baps, then after a chinwag it was off down the A272 to Loomies. Must have missed Mr.Red by an hour or so, although I think I could still hear his new cut down exhaust. Spent a good while in the sun watching bikes come and go, then back up the A272/A29 to Box Hill for an afternoon milkshake. BMW had commandeered a fair chunk of the parking area for their fleet of test ride bikes. It was all a bit hot and crowded so didn't stay long before heading home to catch up on the days WSB races.

I was wondering if it had shrunk in all the rain we'd had recently... :D
