Yesterday, actually. To avoid the mayhem of heavy traffic in North Wales, I headed in the opposite direction towards Shropshire and Staffordshire. Streams of cars, motorbikes, campervans, caravans, coming towards me, but virtually empty roads in front of me. I headed to Whitchurch, Audlem, Market Drayton, Loggerheads, Eccleshall, Stone, Uttoxeter, Rugeley. I decided to go to a cafe at Chasewater, near Cannock, so headed to Hednesford, which is where I am from originally. In Hednesford I noticed a gathering of bikers outside the Victoria Working Mens Club so I stopped to see what was going on. I ended up staying there for two and a half hours. It was the Hednesford Motorcycle Club hosting the MZ Owners Club. I told them that I was heading for a cafe and they said don't bother as I could have food and drink with them. There was a barbecue, bar, tea and coffee. What a friendly group of people they were. They said that I was welcome to come to any of their gatherings, 1st Sunday of the month for this one. To top things off, I told them that my late Grandfather had been the local GP. Several of the group remembered him and had been treated by him.
I made my way back to Wrexham through Staffordshire and Shropshire, a total of 160 miles on very quiet roads. One of the best days out I have had for a while and I shall be returning to the Hednesford Motorcycle Club. Unfortunately, I did not have my camera with me.
