Fazers in MCN
« on: 20 February 2013, 11:34:52 am »
Hi there,

Sorry to suddenly arrive on the forum but I'm a freelance journalist working for MCN and I'm writing a buying guide on Fazers (1000 and 600 old and new versions, not the 800, sorry). I'm trying to chase up a few owners to appear in MCN. Nothing too serious, just a photo of yourself (head shot, can be taken on an iPhone) to appear in MCN and two minute chat on the phone about what it is like to own your Fazer, any issues, things to watch out for when buying etc. If you could pleae PM me with you phone number if you are interested I'll bell you back. I'm after one owner of each model (FZ1, FZS1000, FZ6 and FZS600) as I'm pretty limited in space.

Thanks in advance

Jon

Hey Jon,

I'm sure there'll be plenty people willing to help out on this forum. I haven't had my fazer that long and haven't really put many miles on it so i'm maybe not going to be any use to you. I've also not ridden many other bikes so can't compare my experience to anything else.

I've got an fzs600 02 plate so if you can't get anyone else with a 600 then drop me a pm.

I've also had a FZS 600 (foxeye) and sold it to get a FZS 1000, it was a price and condition i could not turn down. (51 plate with 5k on the clock)
The other reason I went for the 1000 was I am 6'3 and found the 600 a tad cramped.

Only mod I felt I needed to make to the 1000 was the very soft rear shock. apparently it is designed for a 10 stone rider. I weigh a tad more than that lol. Fitted a hyperpro spring greatly improved it.
Others have fitted an R6 shock but it is a little more involved.

Good luck on your quest.

Nice one Jon, I have a 54 reg Blue Fazer 1000 which I've had for 3 years. I've done a few mods to it which fellow members on here and another top forum have helped with. Any help that I can give just ask?

I found the FZS to be a brilliant starter bike, easy to step up to from the direct access machine with extra grunt if you need it. I've not outgrown it in nearly three years of ownership and have no intention of selling when I get another bike. One of the better parts of owning one is the support this forum offers.

FZS600 problems:

Front sprocket issues that Yam admitted to at the time but has since fallen into legend that few dealers recall:

Box eye's original headlight apparently wasn't great but a simple mod sorts it out:

Currently on my third FZS600 and done nearly 100,000 miles on them. I've also got an FZ1S which I absolutely love to bits! (after my R1 streetfighter). :D

I've always said, the FZS 600 is the only bike you'll ever need, but not the only one you'll ever want!

I've owned my FZS600 for nearly 4 years and certainly don't mind helping out and informing the masses on what a great bike they are missing out on! PM sent.

  not the 800,

Pfft.

The 600s are for post learner newbees and the 1000's for bragging rights down the pub for blokes with small willies  :lol

Am I the only skeptic here? thinking you're all being taken for a ride some how?

Initially I was skeptical, still am a little bit since they haven't checked back yet. But then again others who have been here much longer have now said that it has happened before, so that's good enough for me :)

Ah fair enough, an unusual last name so much so that I didn't even consider it to be his name. I can't talk though to be fair...

How many people actually did what he asked? I had a good chat with him yesterday, seems genuine enough.

Mind, he did say he expected to get some abuse on here too, so Jon, your website really needs some work :)

Jon's been writing for MCN on and off for years, i've corresponded with him many years ago when his staff bike was a CBR600.
I think he's also written and tested for TWO too. All in all a good bloke
