Best deals for tyres?
« on: 29 January 2013, 01:34:56 pm »
Hi All,

Just wondering what others did for finding the best deals for tyres? I've searched through the forums and seen loads of recommendations for various makes but was wondering where people bought them from.

Demon Tweeks seem to be reasonably priced, M&P seems to be expensive in comparison. Ebay, generally, seems to more expensive. Black Circles seems to have a poor selection (and more expensive).

That was only with about an hours worth of searching and was wondering if you lot had some better sites to try?

Cheers.

As long as you know which tyre you're after i think it's just a case of searching.
I buy mine online then get them fitted by my mechanic, which is obviously another few quid on top.
It's normally something i search for a couple of months before i need them in case you get any deals going on.
My last 2 front tyres i bought in M&P's clearance sale for £35 each, and i just stored one for the next time i needed it!  :D

I tend to buy them on ebay, even after searching through tyre dealers, ebay tyre sellers where a good 10 pounds cheaper per tyre. Just avoid chinese no branded stuff, stick with good reputable brands!

I'm based in Gloucestershire so London is a bit of a non starter but thanks for asking.

I haven't started checking around my local bike shops/fitters etc yet - will do that last once I have a feel for prices. It could be that some local outfit has a deal on some tyres they have lying around but I didn't want to have that conversation just yet.

Thanks.

the last time I got a pair of tyres I used a place on the A10
I think it was between Cambridge and ely they were the cheapest at the time by far , cheaper than buying loose tyres and then have them fitted even

plus it was a ride in ride out service If I could remmebet the name I would recomend them

but a lot of it is where you are and what you want , which tyres what service ect

What tyres are you looking at? I really like the BT023's but they are insanely expensive on M&P and I haven't found anywhere cheaper than Blackcircles so far and I only checked the other day. I have a slow relatively fast leak on my rear tyre  :'(

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorcycle/tyres/maxxis-supermaxx-touring-m6029-tyres I think the pair comes in at £160 delivered. I can't find anything comparable anywhere else. But I'll have a further search tonight.

@red98 there's a big bike service centre in White City that i went to years ago that mainly dealt with couriers, and they had a big selection of tyres that were very reasonable and had loads of mechanics working in there to fit them. You ride your bike inside a large warehouse type building.
Dunno about now but back then there was a connection between that place and the maniac Brazilian bikers that used to do stunts at the Ace Cafe?
Maybe worth a call next time, see what they've got?

I got mine from http://www.thevisorshop.com/

Don't worry about them being in Ireland, postage is free and was no slower than buying from over here.

@Jamieg285 thanks for the link to Visor Shop. They turned out to be have the best prices for the Pilot Road 3s that I went for in the end (£220  :\ and that includes P&P).

I was umming and arring about the Maxxis Touring tyres but in the end I've heard good things about the Pilot Road 3's handling in the wet (I ride all year round) and their longevity (reckon 40-50% of my miles are on motorways or similar) - so hoping that the initial expense will pay for itself in the long run.

Glad to help.

In fact, I could repeat what you've said word for word, as it all applies to me too!

Call Mick at www.sticky-stuff.co.uk on 01952 502703

Nice fella, tells you what he's got that might not be on the website, I've bought several tyres from there over the years.

M&P and Busters are basically the same firm.
