Anyone browsing with a smartphone / ipad / other thingy?
« on: 19 October 2011, 03:27:39 pm »
If you are, or want to, please point yourself here: http://smf-media.com/community/index.php

Have a good look around - not at the content but at how it is laid out on your particular device(s).

Please let us know what phone / os / browser you're using, and how it was for you :smokin

Thank you :)

iphone, browsing is difficult. If you click on a thread, it comes up with a box that covers half the screen that you can't get past. I wait until I get home now :(

Secret? There's not meant to be a secret but maybe in keeping it simple I've created one?

smf-media sell a product (SMF4Mobile) that is supposed to render a messageboard like ours correctly on smartphones. I cannot buy every type of phone to test this and that's where this thread comes in.

Thanks for the responses so far :)

I had same problem, was very annoying.
Only slight problem I have on the phone with our site is the preview box that pops up and can't get rid of sometimes. Like tori.mentioned. but didn't have that prob on the one you linked.

Works great on an iPad2. Gives me all my tabs for different sites, similar to what I have on my pc. Iphone, not so good, same problems as Tori mentioned.

Hi Tori, that site sells a 'theme' that they say allows mobile users to browse the site nicely. However if it doesn't work for so many people there is no point in shelling out the dough for it.

The cure may be tapatalk which we will try next. Unfortunately each user has to buy it, not the site :\

Tori is the problem here on the site proper or is it on the site Frazer linked to?

Allthough I have the same problem tori has it is only on our site.
And if that issue was solved then our site as its laid out now seems to look and work fine on the Android.
I prefer the full layout on the whole to most of the cut down options other sites offer to.

Thanks. When you go to the site listed in the first post, do the same (or other) problems occur?

Nope no preview pop up problem on the linked site. But as others have stated it dose often not load and jump back to previous post.
It also just looks a bit bleh its nice to have the slightly bigger font size on the mobile but that's about it. And I get that here with ease by a quick pinch.

Looks fine on my HTC desire browsing on safari, it's my fingers that don't quite work properly.

I am confused. The link above is the smf site I'm assuming. My log in does not work there, so I'm assuming I'm not meant to use it in that way.

Anyway, browsing foc u on the iphone is a pain in the butt.

Cannot confirm that. With my iPhone 4 (jb iOS 4.3.2) using the iCab browser (not Safari) the whole site looked perfectly OK, everything fully functional.

Cheers,
Sascha

I'm a Microsoft and Intel Shareholder and this thread is MUSIC to my ears  :rollin .

So we have an expensive and solid OS from Apple that ties you to their hardware and a cheap/free OS from Google that throws up a shedload of problems if you're name is Fred and its a Tuesday. And you have to buy bolt-ons to make it actually work.

At Intel , Craig Barrett coined the phrase "Ubiquitous Interactive Device" for the PC.

Question is ... Are we there yet? with these slab-like phone/PC hybrids.

Predictions ...
1) Nokia/Microsoft will win, and it will take 3-5 years.
2) Jobs will try for a comeback but he won't make it back above ground-level.

Not if it's Jailbroken?
