Sorry not a bike question - RS232 lead
« on: 03 January 2013, 08:55:48 pm »
Quick question I'm making up a unique 9 pin to RS232 25 pin lead for our laptop - CNC lathe /mill at work.

For a 25 pin RS232 to 25 pin RS232 moulded lead how is it wired up?  Are all 25 pins wired as 1 to 1,  2 to 2, 3 to 3 etc???

Thanks

It really depends on the use but the standard RS-232 is the one in this link
http://www.lammertbies.nl/comm/cable/RS-232.html#pins

on a 25 . 25 cable there are a few pairs that cross over. The diagrams in the link above will show you the 9-25 pin version.

This may be an easier option though.

Thanks for help guys bbrown166 the lead from maplins is wired as your link i.e 1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3 etc but 18, 11, and 25 are also wired your link showed them not wired.

I've brought a 9 pin to 25 pin and also a 25 pin to 25 pin cutting both leads in half and wiring up my own unique lead 9 pin to 25 pin  for laptop to CNC machine, it's be MUCH easier than trying to solder the leads to the 9 pin and 25 pin,  the moulded plugs should last a while being plugged and unplugged all day.

Google for an rs232 breakout connector, that lets you connect different pins together in whatever order you want.
