On bike cameras-do they change the way you ride?

I was discussing with a mate about having a camera on the bike/helmet etc and my worry is that it would change my riding as in playing up to the camera,getting worthy material to look at etc,like making silly mistakes on a driving test when you know someone is watching.


Has anyone had one and stopped using it for this reason or do you generally forget that its there after a while.


I enjoy watching lewis's antics on his fazer,he seems to be used to it although lewis maybe you get a bit occupied with commentating etc but then the police do running commentary and maybe it makes you more aware,the footage where you round a corner to an arctic all over the road is a reminder to all about hazards.

Go pro seems to be the one ive heard most of plus i could take it out with me on the kayak too.

Doing the commentary generally knocks 10-15mph off your cruising speed. I only know this as I nearly failed my advanced test doing to it. 
And be careful using cameras on your bike. If you ride like a tw@ and get stopped by the law, they can use it as evidence in a prosecution. Likewise if you put it on YouTube doing silly things on the road. There have been several successful prosecutions retrospectively already

Yar, I been considering one for a while as I have relatives abroad who would love to see some ride-outs. I was thinking of using it more like a family up-date with a ride around of places in England they might like to see (yes, I would need to travel lol)

used one for years drift x170 fit it and forget its there you will be surprised at some of the amazing shots you get especially rearward facing

I've got one with the specific *intent* of changing the way I ride by talking through what I'm thinking as I'm riding, then playing it back to see what I could have done better

Tom, have you used one of these? Have been after something of the sort, for use in both car and on the bike, and this looks as though it might fit the bill. Is it decent kit, sturdy enough build quality and the like?

Not a clue mate - just spotted it on the net. It records in a loop like a black box, so you never worry about it coming to an end.

sold out in the UK).

I'm over in toasty warm NZ until the 30th - I need to get a mount to put it on the fork leg or handlebars
of the bike I am being lent. Will try and post any videos I make...

Just had a look at the go pro 3,180 quid and then i think id hav to spend more for waterproofing etc,


The black edition is about 100 squid dearer,surely not just because it's black is it

Oh and theres not too much negativity about cameras so far so im getting one.


As if falling off a bike isnt gonna be painful enough without re living the moment over and over on the laptop!

The 3 Hero3 cameras available all seem to have different specs.

be careful when buying hd you will need a quite a high spec pc and editing suite to be able to edit successfully.although saying that the end results are spectacular.

Just bought a DRIFT HD 1080P second hand, complete with 4 batteries. Not tried it on the bike yet, but it sure looks like a great piece of kit and not as obtrusive on the side of the helmet as some of them are. Will post a video (when the weatherman stops reading 50 shades of grey).

I have a Drift..the pre HD one.
I've had it a few years now.
I use ram mounts for convenience....but tbh, these days I can't be arsed setting it up.
I usually end up running out of card memory of the batteries run down....

I know what you mean Tifa - I'll only use it for 'special' rideouts probably. I have a couple of 32Gb cards and 4 batteries, so it shouldn't be a problem. Might get one of their power-packs.  Don't think the video quality is quite as good as the GoPro equivalent, but I got this cheap anyway, and it's certainly good enough for web videos.
