Restricted 0-60 time??
« on: 07 December 2012, 07:11:18 pm »
Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong? In my first attempt it was 10 seconds and my Second attempt was 9 seconds.

Surely is should be faster??

This bike is restricted right?
It seems to take a very long time to build up revs..

Sorry, just re-read it is restricted.

Yes it is restricted to 33bhp. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to make my time better :/

Changing sprockets could help.
How long does it have to be restricted for?

Remove the restrictor washers and increase the holes by 2mm
Still restricted but goes much better.

On a personal note, stay as you are and get a bit more experience!

I am doing. Sometimes it's nice to have a bit of extra power. I was looking at some old video footage before and I was cruising at 60 pulled my wrist backand went to 110 quite easy :D

Learn to change gear without the clutch, you don't need to come off the throttle anywhere near as much as you are.  Not sure how a restricted bike will perform at 10k+ revs but for a 0-60 time I'd keep it in first on a full power bike.

Telling a learning rider to lose the hi-viz is like throwing him to the wolves.
It's bad enough out there already for bikers without giving some numpty the free pass to say "I didn't see you"

This is the one i use, it's half decent looking, actually got weight to it too, and does not flap about at all, even when i've worn it over a t-shirt in blistering heat (remember that day?).
And because of the design it's fully adjustable so it sits firmly over any jacket.
In case it grabs your interest, i got the supersize xxxl, i'm 6ft tall and 100kg, but as i said before i can take it straight off my jacket and put it over a t-shirt with no adjustment and no hint of flapping about at all, 'cos it has a mesh lining that just sticks to you. I also added elastic to the sides for any extra give that may be needed.
Basically it's a very nice bit of kit.
I have no idea why the text has gone smaller, but i can't be arsed to write it again so get your magnifying glasses out? :lol

Whats the crack mate, youve been riding the bike before de-restricted but now youve gotta have it restricted?, or did you give it a cheeky test to make sure it was working in non restricted format.

Regards the hi viz-is your whole bike not bright orange, i bet people still dont see you!

Ive never ridden a bike restricted but after seeing the vid i wish that id had a restricted fazer to do all my learning/lessons on as bike hire with the school wasnt cheap and my bike was sat in the shed doing nothing.

I always thought that the restrictor only restricted how high you could rev in each gear but i appear to be wrong as usual as your bike seems allot slower getting itself  through the rev range,

Im personally not too fussed about 0-60 times although its always good to test things out, 3rd gear overtaking acceleration is what i like.

Changing up without the clutch is also cool although ive messed it up a couple of times and often wonder whether to stick with using the clutch for more of a guarantee of actually changing gear,im still learning and its probably better focusing more on roadcraft, looking way ahead, cornering technique etc. liking all the videos!

I was under the impression that driving on the 'restricted' licence was to let you build up you experience before you go on to the 'full bifta' - doing o -60s is not really the experience building activities they want you to do!

Wait till you have a full unristricted bike/licence and then give it the beans all you want!

Surely the whole point of a restricted bike is that it is slower and more manageable.
You essentially have 1/3 of the available horse power but are achieving 0-60 in just over double the time. Sooo whats the problem?

Put a little pressure on the pedal, but not enough to move the lever.  Flick the throttle off and on (just a little bit, not all the way) and the small amount of pressure from your foot will move the lever.  I do it virtually all the time now, except first->second, once it's up to temperature.

Just ride the bike in a normal fashion for now and get the road experience, the fun part will follow all in good time!

Seems the fazer looses alot of top end restricted, change at the red line  8)

Also risky attemtping 0-60 in those road condition, very easy to spin the back up.

:agree especially crossing white lines in 1st gear with the throttle wound back - be carefull lewis, dont foc it up.

And another thing...
a bit close to the car at the start of the roll on test, if it had braked sharply for whatever reason, especially as you had a clear lane to your right, which you did join eventually to over take, yes, but i refer to the bit before that.

Restriction affects different bikes in different ways; as a rule of thumb, twins (SV650 / ER6) tend to restrict better than four-cylinder machines (twins make power lower down and restricting them tends to limit the top end), fours can be "strangled" by restriction through the rev range.

IMO, you're probably better off learning to be smooth with the bike / controls / roadcraft; being smoother will naturally make you faster in time anyway.
