screen for tall rider
« on: 14 October 2012, 10:35:31 am »
Good morning all,
Took the bike on a fairly long ride yesterday, and ive realised that the screen is placing the wind straight on to my chest and head. If I duck down it gets a lot better. With a 6'3 frame, what screen would you recommend to raise the wind profile?

I replaced a taller touring screen with a standard screen and realised how much wind it was deflecting over my head.
I prefer the look of the standard but every time I go any distance on it half way through the journey I always think I wish I'd remembered to swap the screens over. With it being winter I may swap it back again.

I cut down a modern FZ6 touring screen for my FZS and its a marvel when doing long mileage!

I was in the understanding that the general consensuss was the on the FZS 600 the double bubble screen does not help much - if anything it tends to makes it worse!

I know double bubbles work well on drop bars sports machines but on the FZS 600 the angle of the fairing and the riding position means that its asking a lot to raise the airflow over your head.
The most you get is the lower edge of the airflow raised a couple of inches so unless the flow is hitting you at the top of the visor it isnt going to help.

I'm sure there will be plenty who disagree - or don't want to admit they spent £50 + on a screen that doesn't look as good and hasn't improved airflow much.

Let me know how it goes, I'm 5,10 with a double bubble and it still hits me in the chest!

(well, upper chest anyway,,,)

got a DB on mine which takes some of the blast away, but wind noise is horrendous. use earplugs.

That's the screen I bought. It was only £20 so I figured not a huge waste of money if it didn't work. It seems to have helped to deflect the wind, although it's not over my head it now hits me in a more comfortable way (if that makes any sense!)
